I was wondering how much interest there would be in a North east Ohio Meet up? I know a lot of people want to see Mike Tyson's house in person the internet does not do it justice and maybe a road trip into cleveland to do some exploring. I can set up some stuff up if there is any interest?

Here's an article about the most recent owner:

I did a little more research on the last owner, Paul Monea, and found out he was busted in 2006 for trying to sell the house plus a 43-carat diamond called "The Golden Eye" to an undercover FBI agent who said he was a drug dealer. Monea was supposed to get $19.5 million, plus a boat, for the house and diamond. He and a friend, Michael Miller, were accused, and later convicted, of money laundering. Monea got 13 years in prison, Miller got 5. Monea's defense claimed that the FBI agent threatened to kill his family, and pointed to inconsistencies and noises on recordings made of the deal as evidence they were tampered with. The jury didn't buy it, obviously. Miller pleaded guilty, but Monea apparently didn't, and so got the longer sentence for money laundering, conspiracy and probation violations.

Monea, who made his fortune producing infomercials for TaeBo tapes, bought the house from Tyson for $1.3 million in 1999. The house was later put on Ebay, but didn't sell. Tyson had bought it in 1989 at a sheriff's auction for $900,000. Monea pleaded guilty to tax evasion in 2003 and had to pay $1.27 million in back taxes. I couldn't find whether his probation is related to this or not. I assume so.

So, the current owner is the Feds, though I'm surprised it hasn't just gone to auction.

That's awesome about the "Golden Eye." Truly amazing what people will do and forever proves that the truth is stranger than fiction. I keep interest in this story because the house is near my mom's place. I honestly don't know who would want to buy it or how anyone in the area has enough money to do so. I'm sure someone has the cash, but really if you did have the money does "northeast Ohio" sound like a dream come true? Oy vey.

You betcha

The place needs way to much work and its moldy from what I heard the whole reason I didn't go in the garage under the house.

Nice research, it's no wonder at this point why the house was left to deteriorate.

Tyson added the pool room after he bought it. There's another picture of a chair on the balcony off the master bedroom in the "Lonely Chair" thread.

Actually, the pool looks better than the pool at my mom's house right now. The pool guy told her "nah, you don't need algaecide!"

Yep, I bet there would be some substantial costs involved with cleaning that place up. My major concern would be with the roof. They are all wood shingles and you could see many damaged and curling singles due to the lack of upkeep.

Are there any good photos of that house? It's obviously gonna be a teardown, no one who can afford a "qualifying" offer on that tacky dump would bother rehabbing it.

That's too funny people are apparently pulling up sections of that zebra-themed carpeting. Might as well put it to good use!

Finally got a chance to get these up. Taken around 6:00 am a few weeks ago. Does anyone else that's been there think the side of the house looks ominous and intimidating?
