Someday is NOT a day of the week !
| | Abandoned but NOT forgotten ! < on 8/3/2009 4:43 AM >
| | | Today on my way back from a fave site of mine I spotted a barely noticeable gem surrounded by a forest of sorts. We had a buddy with us who is not so much into our little "hobby" who chose to stay back and be our ears and eyes (damm good thing too - as it turned out) We marvelled at the amount of things left behind in this fairly large home. There were all sorts of really nice furniture and boxes of magazines dating from 1958 and old hard cover books. Old beds, ancient playpen, and WW1 picture of soldier from "Moosenee battalion" dated 1914 were some of the items. Coons have pretty much had their way with this place and coon crap was piled high all over. When we were upstairs I got a text from my buddy saying that two men were on property and knew somebody was inside. I peeked out top floor window and seen one of the guys hoofing it back towards roadway. Our trip was obviously cut short and we booked it back downstairs and squished our way back outside when I got another text saying they were parked behind my car likely getting my plate number for boys in blue. Luckily they drove away and we ran like a pair of shit streaks towards fence where we tucked and rolled better than GI Joe and hopped in the car and sped away. As we were booking it down the road those men passed us on way back to site. I put the hammer down and zig-zagged up and down a zillion different roads till I was sure I had lost them. What an adrenaline rush!!! For sure the closest I have come to getting caught red handed. I took a few pics before we had to scat but the quality is poor as I was using my cellphone. Side of house
| Hall to stairs
| Stairs
| Old sideboard
| Mirrored top of dresser
| Rest of dresser
| Really old bed and mattress
| July 1958 Farmer's magazine only 10 cents!!
| Nice chair with boxes of hardcover books
| Soldier from WW1
| Moosenee battalion 1914
| REALLY old rope type playpen
| Some type of stove

| | | Beautiful location, the ones without any vandalism and with artefacts are the most fun to photograph. Glad you got away before those men came back.

| | | Nice find! These untouched "museum" type homes are the closest thing to traveling back to that time that we've got. Thank you for sharing!

Considering one of their signs made use of shotguns in a cross with a skull above it...I sure didn't want to find out if they were drunken...LOL

| | | Fantastic place! Every so often, I'll track down the owners of a place like that. I got a tour and some stories from a relative last spring after asking a few questions. If people care enough to protect a property - there may be some great stories and some interest in telling them.... I guess it depends where a site is.

| | | wow.. are you sure they were property related and not just those pesky developers that have been following Explorers around and stealing finds? That House is Great and deserves to be Left alone to collect even more age. Shame you Didn't get more pics, but the ones you got were pretty good!

Iam not sure but I think they were property keepers as the lawns are well maintained and there is a barn that appears to be active. I also noticed after the fact that there was a mailbox that had two rifles in a cross shape with a skull over them ...lol (should of been a clue ...lol) It is a shame we had to leave because I would have taken alot more shots of the actual rooms and such...there was so much to see I would have definately liked at least another half hour there.

I agree, this place has alot of historic things left behind and it would be cool to learn about the soldier and if he was the owner.

There were quite a few of those there, all dating from 1958
