While Michigan has indeed adopted "Castle Doctrine" (MCL 780.951 - Public Act 311 of 2006) your courts have ruled on several occasions that Castle Doctrine applies only to DWELLINGS and attached improvements, but NOT to outside property. (People v Randolph, People v Riddle, People v 1987 Mercury, etc etc etc and so on and so forth)

I'm not a law expert but I do believe in recent years Michigan courts have shown through precedent that shooting someone illegally trespassing on your property, even while retreating is totally acceptable, and basically standard practice here.

Yeah, that first smoke and the first beer were INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. I'm currently heading back into Toronto and am over the moon to be back in my homeland and not in an American jail... or rotting at the bottom of a deep hole in the back of a huge steel plant.

Ok, you commit a misdemeaner, you also crossed the US border to do it, thats a felony. Take him to court, and be banned from this country indefinitely.
You commit trespassing at a guys work that he is paid to protect and he chases you, First of all you run! Hey retard he's had many people arrested there and never threatened any of them, merely waited for the police.
You are running from him (retarded) then you run INTO THE PLACE HE IS THERE TO PROTECT. Are you incompetent? You escalated the situation dramatically. You acted dumb to begin with but this is reprehensible outlandish behavior and he did what was necessary to make sure a fool that gives the urban explorers a bad name didn't return.
That factory from when I visited in it isn't in a city limit. Discharging a weapon (not saying what it was) is not a crime.
That you acted like guys with something to retrieve makes you look guilty of something much more than a misdemeaner (what retard that's being chased runs into the place they are being persued over)
When being persued ducking into a building escalates the danger for the persuer dramatically, and basically is perceived as a threat.
Did he overreact? Possibly, but didn't do anything illegal and warning shots are legal. How did you act? Absolutely retarded and you escalated the situation drastically.
For all the guys saying he has something coming, this is the US, lets go over the facts you know he has a gun, and you attack him, he with that knowledge can legally kill you in all 50 states even NY and MA so lets try to use our brains for more than watching youtube videos.
I've done my share of urban exploring but man if the OP didn't ask to be chased down hard.

sigh... it wasn't a shotgun, I wouldn't be worrying for you if it was. trying to keep some kid from getting yourselves worked into a frenzy that ends up with unneeded violence. I don't approve of what happened at all, I personally think warning shots are immoral (due to psychological effects and not fear, but it encourages the aggressor)
How many people on this website have been caught trespassing? I have thankfully never got arrested though it was their right to do so. I snuck away a few times, but I never ran INTO the off limit piece of property. Michigan Central station many of my friends have gotten tickets usually at a tune of $150 a pop for being in there, I have no problem running AWAY, or hiding, but this whole thread wreaks of provocation.
Working yourselves into a frenzy with vague threats of violence doesn't benefit anyone. I said my piece, hopefully the not so crazy won't get sucked in, but some of you I don't believe can be abated and like Detroit, he's not going to be the one in trouble being outside of Toledo.

Have you ever watched somebody bleed to death? I can personally attest to the fact that hearing the blood gurgle out of someone after a car wreck will leave you with a permanent respect for death. If Steve is crazy like so many of you think (I don't know him well enough to have an opinion only met him that one time he gave me a tour) I wouldn't want to contemplate the things that this forum is. If he's crazy, and he's smart (I can attest that he does his research) if he ever decides to shoot someone he will win in court, which is a very scary concept to realize that he almost assuredly KNOWS that to be true. I wouldn't jest, this is so far beyond pictures, that I won't even apologise, this is outside of your forte and into mine, this isn't worth anyone dying over (him or you)
One other thing everyone on this forum needs to be aware of is they have tripled the number of security guards at that plant since this happened. Please don't push your luck.
