Second Abandonment

So, went on my second abandonment Fourth of July weekend. Yeah, I know, slow posting, but whatever. Secretsquirrel gave Johnny Mnemonic and me a tour of a Shriner temple in Houston. One of Squirrel's friends was there, too, but his name escapes me at the moment.

It was lots of fun. A lot of people had obviously been through before we came along, so they left some interesting marks of their own using paint left behind by the Shriners. Lots of toys, books and pictures left behind, so it was cool seeing what all the Shriners did. We picked up a copy of their latest phone directory since there were millions scattered throughout the places. There were also some medals lying around, some of them were war ones if I recall properly. Also, lots of spoiled food in containers. I shudder to think of the monstrosity released on the world if any of these were opened. Of course, that didn't stop us from wanting to open up a locked cooler we found near the entrance. We found a box of keys later, but didn't go back to try to see if any of them were the right one. Might do that next time.

So, yeah. Basically we just wandered around, going room to room. Made sure to visit a few like the Creepy Clown Room, where there's a picture of one of the Shriners dressed like a clown so people can take pictures with him. He made one hell of a scary clown. We also made sure to visit the roof; beautiful view, but that pretty much goes for any roof. We watched lightning travel across the sky occasionally and wished for rain.

But, yeah, don't know what else to say. Didn't see hide nor hair of any cops, though Squirrel mentioned that they like to play hooky behind the building, so I guess we came on a good night to completely avoid them. Oh, and I learned it's a lot hotter in there than outside. So, if you plan on doing any abandonments in Texas in the middle of summer, dress light and bring plenty of water. Holy crap, it was hotter than balls, and I love the heat; I never have the A/C running at home. Felt so good to be on that roof and any breezes that came in through broken windows were a godsend. Oh, and I was never one for taking pictures, but I know Squirrel took a number and Johnny took a few, so hit them up if you want to see any pictures.

I brake for cockroaches.

This sounds awesome!

Anyway, sounds like a cool place. Nice second explore, you ought to throw up some pictures!

Any pictures of the medals? I can help identify them.

No idea. Like I said, I don't take pictures. You'd have to ask Secretsquirrel or Johnny Mnemonic.

Wow, looks like I'm behind the times on this one... You conveyed the trip a lot better than I would have been able to. But yeah, I'm away from the PC with all the photos I took, but when I get a chance, I can up the few I got.
