News reports of another fire at Dixie Square Mall Monday night are coming out. The article incorrectly states the fire was in "Sears".

'Blues Brothers' Mall damaged

Site of 'The Blues Brothers' movie catches on fire
Jul 20, 2009

(HARVEY) Dixie Square Mall, known for being in the movie "The Blues Brothers," caught on fire Monday night.

The fire started at the abandoned mall, 15300 Dixie Hwy., in Harvey about 6:20 p.m., said Harvey police spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado. Alvarado said the fire was elevated to a box alarm, and was extinguished about 7:30 p.m.

Alvarado said the fire was inside the old Sears department store, an anchor tenant in the longtime-closed mall.

"It's [Sears] all abandoned, all brick, and pretty much just walls," Alvarado said. "Its hollowed out."

No injuries were reported in the fire.

LOL...they called it Sears. Now I wonder how much of the 2nd floor has fallen now. Craziness.

WLS-TV has an image posted. Looks like there's damage to Penneys and possibly Walgreens.

It's time for the mall to go. Remove the debris and make a nice Prairie Preserve, it's time to move on.

Agreed, but you have to admit that no matter how bad it gets, you'll still be depressed when it actually disappears.

It's always depressing to see loved ones die no matter how sick they get.

To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't just let the fire burn itself out, cite doing so as a saftey concern, then demo the mall since it was gutted by fire and now a major saftey issue (not that it isn't now).

The perfect excuse!

I would really be sad if it got torn down. I've been wanting to go there myself for some time.

im suprised they havent used this site for fire training. Seems like they burn down alot of other abandonments with the sole purpose of firefighter training.

A friend of mine went in a few days ago. Damage is contained to the Block C entrance between Walgreens R Us and Penneys, with some scorch marks on Penneys.
