| | Motel Longbranch (Britt, ON) < on 7/15/2009 6:24 PM >
| | | Anyone who has travelled from Sudbury to Barrie (or vice versa) will recognize this motel as a staple of Highway 69. It had closed in the late 1990's and saw a brief revival in the early 2000's when it was reopened for approximately one year. Today's guests will marvel at the many list of amenities: - free ceiling mold - mushy hallways - do-it-yourself laundry - complimentary chairs - one shared Bible for the entire motel - bring your own food restaurant - clean your own room service (the rugs are a tad dirty since the chambermaid quit, rumours say it had to do with Renaldo the pool boy and an affair) Half of the photos were taken with a Canon Rebel XS (solo trip), the other half with a Kodak Easyshare point and shoot (MsgSudz and myself trip last Friday). More photos pending once the DB entry is created 1.

Nothing. Quite odd when you consider the state of some of Highway 69's other restaurants (busted out windows). I don't think I've even seen graffiti on any highway 69 location with the exception of a little bit at the Ojibway Truck Stop. Edit: I just remembered, there is an OPP station a stone's throw away so that may be an answer as to why there is no damage. [last edit 7/15/2009 7:09 PM by Intrinsic - edited 1 times]

Yes it was. I'm a little disappointed with how my interiors compared to Msg's but I suspect if I keep playing with post-processing methods that this can be changed. For example, the hallway shots each of us took are quite different despite being taken by almost the identical cameras in the same location. My television shot (not posted) also seems to suck balls compared to Msg's. Anyway...

well. can i make some suggestions? dont use a flash. use a tripod. keep your iso low. shot raw. watch your lines. now while i am well aware thats you're not likely to listen to anything i have to say, i at least tried.

No need to be presumptuous, I am open to advice all the time. I generally don't use a flash although without a tripod (my next purchase) I'm unable to hold the camera for longer exposure times. In the series above, the hallway shots were done with the flash while the interior shots were a mix of flash/no flash. I try to shoot in 100 ISO and in Jpeg format. It occured to me only after returning home that I had the camera configured for Jpeg rather than RAW. I tend to use a different DSLR camera for each trip (exception being the point and shoot). Once I find one I'm content with (long story), I'll have to learn more about the exposure times, etc.

get the xti. (or something a little higher, like 40D or 50D if you can afford it), some good glass, and you'll never look back.

| | | you can always put the camera on the ground or on a table and use the self-timer (so pressing the shutter doesn't shake the camera)
