|  | | | For those that don't know, the state hospital in Lexington KY will soon be getting a new hospital and giving the old property to BCTC (Bluegrass Community & Technical College), there's been meetings about the future of the current buildings. So far it's been somewhat mixed as to what to do with the buildings. July 14th there's going to be a little known public forum to discuss it. It will be at the YMCA on Loudon Ave @ 6:30, hopefully a decent crowd will show up to say something about preserving as many buildings as possible! I'll be there with my cemetery preservation group, we're trying to keep it from becoming a parking lot. It currently is the nation's oldest continually operated public mental health facility (1824). The closer we come to the facility closing, the more likely photo ops, they still enforce the dreaded HIPPA rules on photos on the property.

| | | | The place might not be abandoned for long with the state/BCTC deal unfortunately. Were you in Wendall? That's one of the buildings that's being debated.

It's almost been completley demolished and rebuilt, but a couple of years ago there were a few interesting buildings to explore.

| | | | Yes police all over the place, police station nearby and the construction there is complete and it's back in full use. However there are two old buildings there not in use but you would need to park some distance away and come in through the woods behind them. I'm planning to do it soon probably next weekend for my b-day.

| | | | Nice. I've gotten into one of the two buildings (the one nearest the swimming pool). You can park at the rec center across the street if it's not the middle of the night. Just don't look too suspicious. Best way to get in is around back. I cant say what the traffic or patrols will be like in the area. Last time I went was on christmas eve, so the whole place was dead. No cars or people anywhere. The basement windows are a good bet, but everything is boarded up with plexi glass or plywood.
