I've explored their building across from general before it got demolished. I've also been to one of their active plants on parkdale in the middle of the night for some emergency service they needed done. I was actually supposed to be there that time. Otherwise I'd say its too much of a hazard to run around their active sites

Sadly, they have half decent security, employees tend to know one another, and the police are very quick to respond..

But hey, go for it if you want.. Just be a ninja.

Too much security, cameras are everywhere and are constantly being monitored.

when you are here, you wish you were there. but once you're there, it soon becomes a here, and you again wish to be there instead of here...

we will never be completely satisfied.

I managed one day to just drive right past the front gate entrance of Dofasco. I parked, got out and managed to snap a few pictures of some things before being laughed at by a bunch of workers. They were pretty nice about it, despite being assholes. They just said to "Get on 'outa here kid!". I did, and left.

All in all.... IT'S SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL IN THERE MAKSNMJKLGNKLJASDGN. There was this under area of some big green crane thing - dust was swirled up and made the entire area dusty, the sun was piercing through this dust and displayed this amazing light show. Everything has such immense detail, the thousands of pipes that intertwine make the entire facility look alien like. Maybe it is, who knows!

This was two years ago sadly, no more pictures =(

But yeah, too much security - unless they're sleepin

Huzzah. I found one! I put my film in wrong and my digital had just died of batteries. I wanted to die in several fires once I found out my film was incorrectly put in (n00b).

Stelco (US Steel Canada) has much more than half decent security. What is left of the active facilities is very well secured. 800 workers are scheduled to return to run the coke producing facilities in the next while as well. Dofasco also has pretty tight security... though certainly not impregnable. If you go, I'd advise you to not treat it as any relaxed exploration. If you're caught on US Steel or Dofasco/ArcelorMittal property, they WILL call the police and you will almost certainly be charged with something. Keep this in mind.

Also, Stelco has never had a property on Parkdale Ave, as long as I've known.

Personally I'm waiting to see what US Steel's fate is before attempting any kind of exploration. Security is just way too tight right now to bother.

Thanks for the replies. I was taking a look at the property from the water. There didn't seem to be any activity on the property, but I was pretty sure that security would be active and in full force.

Right. It's on Strathearne Ave. It's called Stelwire
43.262323, -79.785976
It was owned by Stelco at the time. Actually, it was going through the acquisition process when I was there.

I assume you're talking about the #2 Rod Mill, which was demolished recently?

The plant being referred to as 'Stelwire' is ArcelorMittal Hamilton East on Strathearne Ave.

Stelwire was a division of Stelco until it was sold to Mittal Steel in 2005. Arcelor purchased Dofasco in 2006 and Arcelor and Mittal merged shortly after.

So, in a roundabout way, Dofasco now operates a former Stelco plant.

There were two Stelwire plants. The one in Hamilton is obviously still active, however the Burlington Works was shut down and demolished (and is in the database).

I'm an employee, good luck. You must carry US Steel ID on you at all times while on the property, and if you don't your trespassing. You'll be held and charged. Security doesn't screw around there, they monitor the grounds 24 hours a day and have cameras everywhere.
