"The St. Matthews Lawn Bowling Club may have been founded in 1899, but was incorporated in 1905. It had male-only and female-only branches, but became co-ed in recent years. The club disbanded at its last general meeting on May 25, 2007.

The St. Matthews Lawn Bowling Club House was designed by City of Toronto architect Robert McCallum, and built by the City in 1906. It is a classic example of early 20th century architecture found in the Riverdale neighborhood.

In 2006, City Council protected the building as a historic structure. It was designed, with its classic ‘long porch’, to overlook a park setting and the move into Riverdale Park achieves this design goal."

I'm in kind of in a rush to get out to see The Sonics play at Dundas square tonight. So, I will just give you guys the pics for now and commentary later.

This is VERY racist! To have this in 2009 too, sheesh!

EDIT: Well, the first link worked for me. Fixed now, I think.

So this thing is currently just sitting on its huge support trailer in Riverdale Park. It is very visible and obvious with many passers by taking photos. However the other side is very sec luded, and the fence is not a challenge. The outside doors are all locked and have furniture against them. With a bit of thinking, entrance was not that hard, though a wicker chair blocked my way. There is really not much inside, they even took the dartboard. It is a bit more dusty then I would have thought for only two years left alone. Seems like it is/was a nice place to hang out with friends. The piano has most of the keys working, but does not seem to be in tune.

They took some serious money and thought moving it: If you follow the course it took you will note it went over a slope as steep as a ski hill over grass, I have no idea how they managed to pull that off, but it obviously took some major effort.I honestly don't know what they are going to do with this place after the move. You can't let the public at it or it will get wrecked, maybe it could be some other club or something for parks department employees.
