Paris drains pictures

A little set of Paris drains photos. They fill up only when the main sewers are full (French sewers collect rainwater and sewage). This happens only under heavy rains.

Really big and really dry... from photos posted by other people here, that seems to be really rare.

They are wet only a few times a year. But the sewer system in Paris is automated and this is very dangerous to go inside, flush can happen anytime. This part of the tunnel system was disconnected to carry out maintenance work.
This is why there so few pics of Paris drains.

This is smallest one I've visited in Paris . I will post pics of a big one in construction soon.

By the way this one is under the Seine river to connect the two sides of Paris.

These seem very similar to the sewer storm reliefs in London, (cept rendered in concrete).

Likewise, you never know when the waterboard will close an intercepting sewer penstock and redirect megalitres of 'fresh your way.

Nice piccies!
