| | Closed Cookeville Laundromat < on 6/8/2009 7:03 PM >
| | | My application for full membership was denied, and I stayed mad about it for a while, but I thought I'd come back. Not a real person...whatever. Anyhoo, here are some pictures that I took through the windows of a closed laundromat here in town. I boosted the contrast a lot so that the ghost sign would show and also on one that shows the control panel of a washer. I left the others alone. The machines inside date to at least the 70s. Some are as old as the fifties, though not the ones that are hooked up in the main part of the building. It's worth noting that there are clothes in the number 10 dryer visible in one of the pictures. There's a half-gone RC cola in a return bottle on one of the tables (which would've evaporated except that it is capped). I've lived in this town since 1995, and this laundry has not been open during that time. The return bottle would suggest that it might've been a while before that. Noone that I work with remembers for sure. There is a Sears booklet of some kind on the RC table which has the Sears logo that they just changed, which was in use starting about 1988 or so. No date is legible on the spine of that book. The cars have been in there that whole time as well. I saw someone in there about this time last year, which explains the finger marks in the dust. Some of those would be easily the nicest example of their type now. As best I saw through the front and rear doors, there are a late 70s Ford Granada, an early 80s Ford Crown Vic, an early 80s Chevy Caprice Classic, an early 80s Ford Escort wagon, an early 80s Dodge Diplomat or Plymouth Gran Fury, a middle 80s Cadillac Sedan deVille, a middle 80s Chevy or GMC pickup, a late 80s Dodge Dakota, and a middle 80s Pontiac T1000.

Nice pictures. The reason your full membership was denied was because you hadn't made a post in over two years. If you consistently post quality stuff, you'll have no worries about getting full membership. Or, you can pretend we think you're "not a real person". Whatever.

| | | The message said "not a real user," so I wasn't sure if it thought I was a saboteur, robot, or whatever. I know that there are people lurking who would cause problems of all sorts if they were full members. You have to be careful. This particular location is less than 10 feet from a major state highway and is far too public and secure to risk illicit entry. Active businesses are literally attached and homes are very nearby. I would recommend against attempting it. The cars are parked inside of the building, there is a wall between the two parts, but there were some dryers or something toward the back of the room where the cars are parked. They're in there really tight and most have slightly flat tires. You can see easily that some of the cars' headliners have fallen. I was surprised at that since I thought indoor parking would have prevented that. I have been inside quite a few places, including two that are now torn down. I don't really want to just post the pics as I would like to be able to describe them in detail. I also believe that one or both must already be listed locations as they were too easy to get into for too long to not be. I'd like to see what photos others posted of them. that isn't a big problem. the bigger problem for me is how to get all the way to cookeville. i have wanted to shoot at a place like this a long time.
as far as memberships, you should go to one of the events this summer and let people meet you in person. that's a good way to be acknowledged as a real human.

Cookeville is about an hour from Nashville. Two birds, one stone, all that.

I sure wouldn't travel from NY and beyond to go to this one. The only benefit of entry here would be a closer look at the stuff on the table, the office, and perhaps at the cars. I didn't post every picture I took (there was a dead rat, among other things), but you could see almost all of the main floor space from either the front or the back. That's part of why I checked this one out in full daylight. It afforded me a look at most all it had to offer from the convenience of the sidewalk. The two cops that drove by didn't bat an eye. There is one very plain looking building around here that appears to be nothing, but which is in an area of valuable real estate that most hold some interesting secrets. May give it a closer look soon.

| | | I couldn't help but smile when I saw this thread. I was a Speed Queen certified mechanic at one time (1984-89). I loved working on those they were so much easier than the other brands that where out there at that time. The washers and dryers are about the same as what we had in our stores...they are probably late 70's or early 80's stuff. I can't be for sure as there is not enough details available. Wish I could get my hands on that extractor too... they are so nice to have access to.

Don't really understand this but the easiest way to be a full member is with some quality pics of locations you have UE'd. Get the pics up, describe them in full. Members will talk about it, members will talk about you and the quality work you've done, members will be happy to recommend you for full membership. Your pics look great for taking them through glass. Look better then some folks who get inside locations. Let you pics and galleries you create speak for you. It's really not that hard.

you'd be surprised at how many locations aren't listed. even if you're posting pictures of locations that have been done before, people still like to see them if they're good. =)
