As you may, or may not have noticed, I am a bit of a noob about these parts. But thought I should take the plunge share some of the stuff I get up to on the weekends. Sorry if some of it looks a bit to "ruralex" to you. But I can assure you that I will have more photos from inside of the hospital to share with you in the not too distant future.
The hospital originally opened in 1908, and hit its peak in the 60's with over 1600 patients housed in various buildings over the large area it occupies. Currently the hospital has less than 200 patients and many of the historic buildings have been closed due to Asbestos contamination. Unfortunately, the government keeps threatening to close it down, so nobody seems to care about people like myself just driving & wandering around the place with a camera 
I dare say that once the shutdown process starts, it will become a lot harder to get in.
If you can... go see it, I have lived on Lake Macquarie for over 25 years, and was still blown away by how beautiful the grounds were at the hospital. Not to mention the large amount of kangaroos living right next door to suburbia.

Constructive criticism is more than welcome. (just keep in mind these were only taken on a 10mp 5x Richo R50 "handy cam" ;)

P.S. I know the pic of the brick entry to the furnace is not quite square, and a little skewed, but you should have seen the size of the bloody spiders that were right behind my arm as I was taking it. Any further back, and it would have been free lunch for the critters.

As for criticism, I don't know how I feel about that super bright sepia tone. Maybe desaturate the shots just a little bit. But they're still very nice

I did think about adjusting a few pics in photoshop, but thought that "shopping" pics here, would be cheating
Might save my photoshops for b3ta.com ;)

I do seriously doubt that I will post everything in sepia. Just got a bit of a thing for it at the moment, it seems to add character to some otherwise "boring" photos ("cheating" a bit I suppose!)

| | | | Did you get to go to the old ward 21 for the criminally insane? Not far from the current hospital grounds. Check my pics here http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post0 Its a bit of a walk in from the grounds, but well worth it for the ruins. I was thinking of heading there again soon

Cant say that I made it to that one on recent rounds, (had my kids with me last time). but... as I said, I will be going back to explore a lot more deeply.
