Anybody Active in Shreveport?

I'm a 23 year old college student in Shreveport, and I've lurked this site a long time and I was wondering if I have any fellow explorers in the are that might be interested in checking out some stuff, I want to get into the old CCC if anybody knows exactly where it is, and Downtown is full of awesome looking and seemingly abandoned building, I'm just not one to go it alone.

That dude kinda makes Shreveport sound way more hood than it really is, there are some sketchy areas, but most of the cool stuff is down town or in the country...

Absolutely. It doesn't get that cold in Shreveport.

Something along these lines might be more appropriate to the location:

(The infamous Snake vs. Alligator battle: snake eats gator, gator pops snake)

J'ai toujours fait une prière à Dieu, qui est fort courte.
La voici: "Mon Dieu, rendez nos ennemis bien ridicules!"
Dieu m'a exaucé.

You ain't kidding about cool stuff to explore. I went to Shreveport today to visit my father's grave for Memorial Day, and took US 80 into downtown from Dallas (I avoid the Interstates when and where I can). Wow, was I blown away by the derelict decay! Makes for good photos, but I had to wonder why this approach to the city had been so utterly abandoned.

I believe the area I explored was once the black side of town, i.e. the commercial area in segregated Shreveport. I'm basing that assumption on the other historically black commercial district I've seen in the South - they've been mostly abandoned and face neglect due to lack of economic development (money coming in), people moving away to find work, and gentrification. Sad, sad, sad.

Anyway, here's some photos from my trip. I'm going to go back soon, because I am extremely curious about the history of this area.

I know those buildings well. From the outside. I've never been in them because every time I'm in Shreveport, seems it's a fast trip and I don't have time to walk around. But I've been down that street many times and checked em out. There are places all over Shreveport just begging to be taken.

Texas Avenue is my favorite part of Shreveport. You're right in your history of the place; during the days of segregation, Texas Avenue was the center of commerce for the black side of town. There are so many magnificent buildings along that street that are now rotting away. Believe it or not, there are actually some inhabited buildings in that third photo you posted; you'll find the residence of local filmmaker David Nelson, his film venue minicine, and a few other private apartments. It's pretty neat seeing all of the old architectural details being preserved in some buildings where they've rotted away or been stripped away in the abandoned ones (David's apartment still has most of the old pressed tin ceiling tiles, plus a big advertisement for shoes painted on the brick wall of the second story, lord knows how long ago). That strip also contains one of my favorite places, the old Lewis Showrooms, which David and a few others keep pretty well boarded up these days, thanks to a few incidents with kids setting fires and such (all those buildings are attached to each other, one fire could take out the whole strip).
So many other great places on that street. I go there every time I make a trip back home.
