| | Don Jail, Toronto < on 5/13/2009 11:56 AM >
| | | Bright and early Saturday morning, I used my Elite Ninja Skills to get in to the Don Jail. It was a nice opportunity to get in there before any major renovations start, and without the crowding and handholding of Doors Open. I'd like to go back and get a proper guided tour though. 1. Welcome....
2. This way to your room
3. Here be dragons
4. ...and snakes
5. Some areas have already been ripped up
6. Most of the cells are very narrow.
7. Jamie from the Urban Flute Project was there.
8. A toilet in one of the bigger cells.
9. Another slightly wider cell, partially destroyed.
10. One more cell...
11. No idea....
12. Broken heart? Found inside a soap dispenser(?) at the end of a cell block.
13. Graffiti in a cell
14. Serial apostrophe abuser
15. And of course....a standard peeling-paint closeup.

| | | Thank you for the dragon and snake details... I have not noticed them in any of the other photo-essays... they are a striking and unique bit of detail! I suppose they were intentionally selected and used there for their psychological impact on the prisoners. Can you imagine looking at them day-by-day as you counted down your time there??

| | | i got there, but didnt end up getting a slot at a reasonable time that i could wait for -- got delayed at home by stupid on-call work phone! i did get a picture of Mr. Bailey, the Don Jail Cat! he managed to infiltrate the jail at least once, but they kicked him out in short order.

| | | This is 'core' samples of the walls probably more of "UMA ENGINEERING LTD"'s work?
|
This is Upstairs...
Edit: Interesting Studies are conducted on older buildings and their structural materials to determine the physical and chemical effects of deterioration...I stumbled upon A LOT of information when researching Adobe and Rammed Earth buidings...I'm not surprised they are taking samples of the brick for physical and mineralogical evaluation. I wonder if the results are available?? [last edit 5/13/2009 4:01 PM by G.U. - edited 1 times]

It was available but it was pretty nondescript. Banditt27 and G.U. probably have pics of it. I didn't bother waiting for them to finish their shots.

It was smaller than I thought.
Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |
