My time has come....

So, seven days ago, I started searching urban exploring on yahoo, and stumbled upon this website. First, I looked around the DB, and found some of the greatest photograpy on this subject that I had ever seen. So quickly, I signed up and went to the forums, quickly trying to make my first post...but no luck, I had to wait seven days. So I came back, every day, sometimes more than once a day, to look at various pictures, read different topics. during this time I believe that I had found MY holy grail. A group of people, which no matter how different in culture, tastes, religion....all get together, all share the same love for what I call "destroyed beauty". Then my thoughts went deeper...WHY do people love searching for and exploring the insides of old, abandoned buildings ? The adrenaline ? As a way to oppose laws ? Maybe, but maybe it goes deeper than that. Maybe its a quest, a yearning for the past, an act of escapism from the tarnished, brutal world in which we live, where, in truth, things aren't what they SHOULD be, filled with hatred, starvation, war. But who knows, the opinions of why we do it vary from person to person. But, as I sit here, typing this, I can't help but think...FINALLY, I found a place where I can go, and talk to people who have at least SOME of the same views as I do. truthfully, i'm glad that I had to wait these seven days, it gave me the chance to greater appreciate this new world in which I have dived into. I feel, as if I have joined a brotherhood. And for this, I am thankful. If I had a beer, i'd raise it for a toast. Here's to many great adventures, my good friends.

Welcome to UER! Sure sounds like you found the right place. It's a little more like a big, more-less dysfunctional family than a brotherhood, but its always fun here. Enjoy.

Could not have said it better myself! I am new to this site too and I love it! Great people!

Just today I was thinking to myself that this is one of the few hobbies and pasttimes that I am 'passionate' about and which gives me great pleasure.

You'll find many others on here with the same mindset and find many will be an asset to your own learning experiences as you explore.

We're not a bunch of hippies if that's what you think.

Sometimes I wonder if my obsession with flashlights led to my interest in Urban Exploration, or conversely, if my
interest in exploration led to my flashlight obsession
