Abandoned from up high

I checked out a new location on the weekend that was particularly fragrant (flowers in bloom covered up the usual bad smell) and was faced with some predictable challenges shooting from high up. In particular I'd like to know what you think of the levels and colour levels of these photos.

1 First, one that partly whited out but I think was one of the stronger shots of the day. I think I have to reshoot it when the sun is higher in the sky.

2 For this picture I wanted to show three very different quadrants of the city (the neighbourhood on the left is newly abandoned) and I fooled around with the colour saturation a bit.

3 I thought of turning this one black and white but didn't go all the way. It does show the size of the abandoned neighbourhood well but it seems kind of runny to me.

4 I attempted to tone down all the colours except the red and yellow. Maybe I should've taken out the red too.

5 I saturated all the colours and took out the sky.

6 Too much?

7 The big problem with this picture and most of the others is the dull sky. Welcome to Seoul.

8 I think this one worked well, particularly the bottom frame.

9. Is it noticeable what I did here?

10. Whee!

11. Drained of all colours except yellow and a smidgen of red.

12. In the middle of the barren zone.

Photographing the Seoul cityscape can be frustrating because of the total lack of straight lines offset by chaotic lines and the intrusion of numerous wires, pipes, and whatever else. Also, it's incredibly difficult to get any definition out of the sky most of the time due to pollution.

The saturated ones seem too saturated, and the desaturated ones dont have enough contrast, IMO

I would have to agree somewhat with willskith!

However I do like the saturated ones more.#2 in particular and 5 and 6.The unsaturated photos are a little blah and nothing really pops but maybe also what you were trying to capture.

Back to #2 I really like the tree tops in the shot and the greens really catch my eye but then again so does the red/orange excavator. It's almost like that shot has 3 different levels. The housing on the left, the construction on the right and the skyline in the back.definitely my favorite.

I'm no professional by any means so take it for whatever it's worth.

I was exploring the cave last night. That's why I was late.

Agreed. Have you tried any in a high contrast b&w. I think it would suit a few.

I tried it with this week's batch. Here's an example. This one's not abandoned, yet.

Did you combine 2 photo's in #9?

Softly creeping through
Empty hallways decades old,
glimpsing history.

No, I isolated the sky and raised the levels of the rest of the photo.

Oh, I thought you had pasted the pale brick building into the background, because it doesn't appear to have the light playing over it the same way as the rest of the photo.

Empty hallways decades old,

i like the black and whites better. the higher contrast levels make them more interesting to look at. altho i do like number 11. don't know why, but i like it. nice stuff as usual!

So please don't wake me,
Till someone cares.
Now no one cares.
