Use the satellite images to figure out where the older industrial areas are, and drive around them. I drove all over Rockford once, and although I don't recall seeing many obvious wide open abandonments, there were plenty of older industrial buildings that might have been abandoned and explorable if you figured out how to get in. There's a big strip of industrial SE of downtown, and a few smaller buildings on the west fringe of downtown.

I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird.

Iowa is Minnesota's bitch. There's an art to pooping.

thats what i did over my spring break. the big strip south of downtown is the old barber colman complex. i've been in there a few times, but when i went back, the city had finally started the asbestos cleanup. i can't really tell from google earth, because the imagery is from 03. i'll have to check into the the west side though. thank you

This sounds intriguing

Check out http://maps.live.com Click on the "birds-eye images" tab on the map. Those are usually much more up to date, and you are able to see quite a bit. They don't cover everywhere though.
