I didn't know my dad was on here either! lol I was about to PM him and be like "how did you know my mom's name??" The mercury is right at the end of the room with all the huge steam pipes, right near the door that leads into the turbine room.

I can't resist shiny objects. We had a conversation afterwards about what a shame it is that mercury is poisonous. Wouldn't it be awesome if they had mercury swimming pools?!

It's totally still doable now though! Just not somewhere I'd want to take my parents anymore.

| | | That is one cool place! Glad to see a whole family out & urbexing. Unfortunately my mother would never do such a thing & my kids are still a tad little to go on the more adventurous stuff (although, they are good for finding & pointing out the spiders in webs that I am just about to walk through Couple of years, & I hope to have the whole Sepia clan out & about with me. How sweet it will be to experience our first trespassing charge as a family

| | | This building will be demolished soon. There is already a crew working there. I'm not completely sure if it will make it to MAMU. If anyone wants to see it one last time send me a PM and I'll take anyone who wants to go. Apparently there was an article about it in the Elizabethton Star. I haven't been able to find it. If anyone can find a copy of that article, let me know!

| | | Craig has been exploring Old King Coal today with friends from Charlotte. He spoke to a demolition crew and was told that it will be a year before the power station is demolished. He watched as they removed the 7 smoke stacks from the top of the building with a crane and oxyacetylene torches. But the rest of the building will remain intact and available to explorers for a long time to come. It is also only one part of two huge industrial complexes and there are many other interesting sites here to explore.

| | | Take another look at the original article. I lost the original folder of photos when my server crashed so I went through my original collection and made another set.
I HAVE POSTED SOME NEW PHOTOS FOR MAMU. IT IS STILL THERE IN ALL ITS GLORY I put a larger set of photos on this web site: http://www.djtrici...more_Old_King_Coal

| | | For my birthday a few days ago, my good non-UER explorer friend Mikaela sent me this:
It's a painting of the roof of this building.

| | | made my second trip back to old king coal. this time, in the daylight hours, so my photos are much more pleasing. this place is beautiful. too bad it will soon be gone. tis life.
they scare you into believing that mercury will kill you on contact. do not be afraid children. technically i could eat this and still be just fine. now whether you would want to handle it or eat it over a long period of time, that's your decision.
thick layers of coal dust mixed with the recent rain caused some spots to be a black slimy mess.
a beautiful lonely chair.
i do not agree with city planners that something such as this should be destroyed.
lonely chairs, paint peels, unsafe flooring, broken glass. a legend in a ue photographers mind.
coal dust coats everything in blue, black and grey. EVERYTHING.
oh.
what's behind closed doors? (ooo. look what anapplesnail taught me halfway through my post. clickable photos so i'm easier to track down by the wrong people. eee.)
kingdom of the catwalks. it's like the definition of deathtrap.
pay no attention to the girl in front of the camera.
bits-n-pieces of a building soon to be remembered only in photographs.
