It was nicer than saying "link for those who don't want to click on photoseeker's cut and paste hit count page."

| | | I was going to post this news story myself but had to head off to work. I do wonder though, upon read Yokes message, is it really necessary to post all of the daily/weekly urban related news stories when they point to one person's personal site but are culled from other news feeds via RSS? The stories are of interest but as many UER people run urban related sites (such as myself) it seems almost a disadvantage, unfair, or self-serving to post so frequently the same link over and over, which we all know by now. I know Photoseeker personally, have no problems with him, yet I admit that I don't post on here everytime someone creates a new location on my site either. I'm all for self-promotion and sharing news but it can be overdone. Why can't we use the original newsfeed link?

| | | It is also common around here to paste the text of the article in question into the posting on here, so no need to go external.

| | | While I'm not going to bother getting into an entire debate on the subject here, I will clarify two points. 1) The stories I post on my site are not the result of automated RSS feeds. Those are at the very bottom of the main page, and have never been featured here. The stories I post on my site I do so purely because they are of interest to those who come to my site. 2) I then post a link to those stories on my own site because they're there anyway, and because it offers one central location to browse through each of the ones I've selected to the readers' content. That being said, my involvement in this discussion, the wrong interpretations of my motives etc. is over.

While I can see the merit of posting the link to one's personal page because it may serve as a repository for other abandoned/urban news articles, I believe that Yokes and myself were trying to point out that the use of the CUT & PASTE option to post news articles verbatim on one's own personal page can ALSO be used to post the same articles to UER. Posting only a message subject but stripping the message of any article content except a link to one's own site seems like it's blatently intended to force traffic to one's own page. Not to mention the inclusion of numerous pay-per-click banners on said location. I guess what I'm saying is, with all of the news that comes across the newswires every day, why not just take the 2 seconds to paste the actual article CONTENT into the UER article and if people want to see the archived messages, a link at the end of the article would also suffice. It leaves people with no option for those who may rather read it without leaving UER's forums, those who'd like to view it at the original website, or those who'd like to just simply reply to others comments without having to be forced to an external site. Just a thought
