| | | February's UE meet in Toronto < on 2/22/2009 3:21 AM >
| | | Its been a great day today for exploration. Horizons have been really stretched=) I was wondering, which group went where and how was it? Our group of three (and another group) went to the rubber factory. It has been partially demolished. Otherwise, i found it to be a rather large building full of surprizes. There were offices and workrooms. Incredible never ending mazes of corridors and spaces. It is hard to list all that we ve seen today. Lots of things were quite memorable: Electronic switches and transformers - never seen something so large and powerful. Somehow i find artistic appeal in the electronic devices which might not be connected to their function. I find them hypnotizing... Table with steel moulds for rubber - a whole collection of fine steel shapemaking plates. Too bad they are so heavy, i wish i could save them as museum pieces Exec desk - still in great condition, with lotsa drawers, made from wood. Unmovable. That locked glass room. I think someone was slleping there. Conveyor belt - great for climbing and sliding. Washrooms with demolished walls - can do what u have to and enjoy the outside views=) and many many other things................. I made around 1 gig of good quality footage, eventually will cut and upload it to my utube channel so you can also have a glimpse of this place (or better, see it for yourself on the spot=)

| | | Sounds cool, we went to St. Clements church, turned out to be hard to find, LOL. at least for the VW crew. The place had been empty for some time now, hence the HUGE pile of unread mail by the door. Lots of creepy religious memorabilia leftover, vintage PAC- MAN board game, wooden muskets, AND we rescued a live raccoon from a trap in the basement. all in all a good UE day. I had to make do w/ no tripod,
talk about racist!

| | | Speaking of "no tripod", to the team that ditched me at NRI after authorities showed up...you also managed to drive away with my tripod...think I can get that back some time? No hard feelings, other than waiting an HOUR for the property owners to leave (it was amusing, they powered up one of the backhoes and randomly swung it around, hoping anybody hiding inside would come running out) and stop patrolling the place, I snuck out -- maintaining my Ticket For Trespassing Virginity.

| | | D'oh! You beat me to it. I was still sorting pics while you were posting. Oh well. Here's some from me. Can't wait to see some from everybody else. This church is quite photogenic, especially in the daylight. Had fun. It was cool to meet and put some more names to faces. Yehoshua...dude, that sucks. more pics on flickr http://www.flickr....otos/46699289@N00/ 1

| | | Cops showed up to NRI with us too... Real downer, we were in there for less than two minutes. I was just about to get my camera out. It was lightly snowing, we were just about to enter that big beautiful room. (Though, yes, they're starting to demolish.)(But I secretly love how that looks.) When they pulled up and kicked us out. Buzz kill. In the end: 3 hours of driving around doing nothing, and the only photos I have are of a few pigeons I shot outside of union station waiting for the train. ... Great first meeting. I was planning on going BACK to NRI tomorrow, but I'm guessing it's totally patrolled? What is up with that. :/ Anybody else? Patrols? Security? Edit: To other groups, I hate you. .v. (Also... See you next time.) [last edit 2/22/2009 5:51 AM by spoonifur - edited 3 times]

| | | The church was great!
Most especially loved the organ.
Downstairs was creepy until we freed Willy.
Very nice to meet everyone, and thanks for a successful first outing with this group. Cheers!

| | | LOL!!! The rubber factory was awesome, especially after the authoritah showed up... Originally I thought it was the tokers in the other group startin up the machines. They are now probably the ones with the new tripod... After observing through a hole in the outside wall about 10 feet from the perps, it definately wasnt the tokers! Thinking the workers were back to steal copper or somethin, strangePlaces, Dennis and I perservered... They had the excavator movin and it was beginning to feel like the demolished building we were explorin was getting ripped down around us. Adrenaline, endorphins and common sense prevailed as we spyed down the spectacle with genuine excitement. Exploration continued in stealth mode, we found the nasty sleeping residents and concluded the basement watermain quest.... As we casually stroll out through the newly modified fencing, some minivan full of italian screams down the dead end street and sits. Good Times!

hey dude we didn't ditch you.(on puropse) we made our way back to the car, waited, drove by a few times, waited for the construction/secrurity people to leave and i went back in looking for you calling your name for like 15 min. ask the other people that were there cause i managed to find them.................. you must have been stashed away pretty good! Sorry for the hassle though. left your tripod with Datacide since he lives in toronto and we had to head back to kitchener. Had tonnes of fun though, nri was amazing! glad to have made the journey before it all gone! [last edit 2/22/2009 4:21 PM by KAPS - edited 1 times]

| | | Rocking the VW crue was quite awesome, especially while no one was resident to Toronto yet trying to navigate. Many shenanigans ensued, but sadly the musket pictures didn't turn out. But we freed the poor raccoon! On a side note, something really creep about being in an abandoned church office while there is little boy dress pants on a desk right beside herbal lotion...

Hey, I haven't seen you in ages since that contact show. We should get together. I assumed you were still in europe. To keep this on track....did anyone get arrested?
