| | UE Paradise - Top 2 Abandoned US Cities < on 2/17/2009 5:15 AM >
| | | These days, it's the worst of times for both. Las Vegas edged Detroit for the title of America's most abandoned city. Atlanta came in third, followed by Greensboro, N.C., and Dayton, Ohio. |

| | | Naw, Vegas only wins because of a recent surge in newer, foreclosed, secured houses in relatively nice neighborhoods & that will be sold & become homes again in the not too distant future. As someone who lived in Detroit from '97-'02, I gotta stand-up for Detroit here! Detroit has thousands of long abandoned -- not just foreclosed, but long-abandoned, unboarded old houses in old neighborhoods that are surreal for how abandoned they are. Better yet, Detroit has scores of long-abandoned small & massive commercial structures -- old candy stores to large, once luxurious hotels and massive factories that decisively confirmed Detroit as being the Motor City & Arsenal of Democracy. You can UER the old factory where Henry Ford worked as a kid, where his first Model-T production line was, and the classroom at Cass Tech High School where Momma Lindbergh was teaching when a reporter stopped by to tell her that her son had just crossed the Atlantic! In regards to abandonments, Detroit is still the winner!!

agreed about that in vegas, every neighborhood has a few foreclosed houses.
but commercial , forget it. Hardly anything commercial abandoned. Thats what sucks about here, as soon as something is abandoned they just tear it down and build something new where it once stood. And 90% of the time even if the building is abandoned and isnt worth a damn thing , but so many scrappers or vandals have done there damage it still has an alarm or security on it 24/7 ..... Vegas Fails for UE. [last edit 2/17/2009 7:33 AM by sYnOnYx - edited 1 times]

| | | Dayton is a horrible town to live in. But a great town to explore abandoned buildings, so long as you don't mind sharing space with the homeless and crackheads!

| | | More so than the abandoned buildings in Detriot, is the lack of abandoned buildings in Detriot, due to demolition. Specifically, the whole neighborhood to the North of the station is surreal: http://maps.google...0.2614717524783803

Just to reiterate and enlighten. %46 of 138 sq. miles is roughly 63 sq. miles. That's 63 sq. miles of nothing but urban decay and blight.

Switch Gears to Active Infiltration; there is no shortage of hotels and showcrashing that can be done; and there has got to be some pretty sick stuff out that way to climb. The building turnover gives you plenty of new constructions. "Nothing to UE"... broaden your horizons.

Tons of new construction and cranes, all easy access. For some reason Im just not into the whole "active" thing. I was successful on gaining access all the way up to the pool level on the new Trump hotel when they just topped the tower off. The exit was spent running from a guard, Minutes later there was 4 LVMPD surrounding the area. while I watched from a nearby parking garage. Youliveandyouburn would have a field day here ! ! If was 140lb and buffed up I would be more willing to try some things. I actually haven't gone and looked for anything new in awhile. Alot of the places I do know about that I want to get into are extremely sealed up ( A few abandoned casino/hotels for example ) Property is worth big big bucks here and, scrappers are in FULL effect. Ive been able to payoff a few security guards and see some cool things. Ive been going to California 1-2 times a month lately (going again this coming weekend) to get my UE in. Plenty of stuff there and always a great time. I have way to much to lose right now by getting caught up by the local PD. Trust me if I knew it would just be a trespassing charge I would risk doing some things. But they don't play out here. They will find something ALOT worse to stick you with.... They trumped up 2 felony charges for me being with someone who shot another with a paintball gun ! Right after I turned 18. Of course they didn't stick, but Made it pretty hard to make bail on $12,000 when a bail bondsmen charges 18%. Not going there again. Plus these cops love to shoot first and ask questions later.

Those are the numbers in the UE DB. Now does that tell us about which city is the most abandoned, or does does it tell us a whole lot more about the explorers of those cities? S(UE)!!!! CD

| | | I really wish I could get up to Detroit to see some proper abandonments. Alas, I am a student who happens to be broke, so that won't happen for a while. But I don't think all those abandoned buildings will be going anywhere soon, so I'll get there someday

Here is something interesting from our local paper. Detroit's smaller sister industrial city Flint is shrinking at a rate so fast that they are actually thinking of dividing the city in quadrants and moving people out of the less populated areas. Basically shutting down, and figuratively walling off large sections of this industrial boom town.

I would say neither. Not all locations are in the DB that people have UE'd , or know about. I think there is more than 9 locations alone on D'voids site.
