| | | St Josephs Seminay ~ UK < on 2/16/2009 6:01 PM >
| | | As a sort of a christmas present to ourselves Bartje (www.urban-travel.org/) and I decided to make a short trip to Manchester. We flew up there on a saturday afternoon, picked up the rental car and made our way to Upholland. We quickly checked out the place in the dark before checking into our hotel, get a meal, get drunk at a pub in Wigan and wake up way to early and feel like shit. It's sunday and this day where flying back, so we have just today to make it work. All excited we leave the hotel, we'll pick up some breakfast along the way, we thought. We were wrong, it's sunday and everything is closed this early in the morning...what were we thinking?! Anyway. St Joseph's Seminary opened up 1883 as a training college for priests. It became one the largest in europe. In 1987 it was left abandoned. We explored this extraordinary place for almost 9 hours and found treasures like a library, snooker table, library, religious statues, a taxidermist, a beautiful church and endless wooden panelled corridors. After hours of walking and shooting photographs we have to leave for our plane, some breakfast and finally some painkillers for the hangover. This was an exceptionally awesome place to explore!
