폐허: abandoned places in Korea

The old name of my site was Condemned Seoul. I don't live in Seoul anymore, so I figured I needed a less Seoul-centered name.

This new title comes from the Japanese term for urban exploration, haikyo, or 廃墟. Haikyo means abandoned place, and comes from two Chinese characters, or kanji to the Japanese, 廃 which means abandoned and 墟 which means place. To Koreans, Chinese characters are called hanja and have somewhat different sounds. Haikyo in Japanese renders into 폐허. It is pronounced pehu, with the final u sound resembling the u in cud rather than the u at the end of Peru.
