Has anyone been or heard of someone exploring Casa Loma?
My memory of inside that place is a bit rusty but no-where near the almost 100 rooms are open to the public in that fake castle, not to mention the best save ever to explain why you're where you shouldn't be! "Oh I got turned around in here and lost the tour group o_0 "

I was there many years ago, and yes I remember there were plenty of rooms. I do not recall being on an actual tour though, I think when you go you pretty much have free reign of the open areas, so in that sense it may be easier to just say you got lost on your own? I could be wrong though. I have been meaning to go back there, it is beautiful!!

when you are here, you wish you were there. but once you're there, it soon becomes a here, and you again wish to be there instead of here...

I've been a few times. VERY cool place. And of course it's been in countless movies.

Many of the "off-limits" areas are actually locked. They seem to be fairly aware of that as a possibility, so while it is an excellent excuse, make sure you're done in the public areas first before attempting it.

It used to be fairly easy to 'sneak-off' from the tour groups, but that has gotten increasingly more difficult in years past. The 'secret passages' etc. that people so often speak of are highly over-rated, and difficult to get to, even if you have the chance.

At night time, you can explore the (beautiful in the spring) gardens, but the small wooded area just south had motion-sensor beacons added in mid 2006 to ward-off unwelcome nightly visitors.

Keep in mind that this is just an early 20th century mansion, an idea from an eccentric man, an exploit by an even more eccentric architect... 'Spadina House' adjacent is far more interesting, if you ask me...just my $0.02

That's what I found too. Lots of locked doors and offices.

I spent quite a few hours there just before Christmas this year. Though there are a few areas that are "off-limits" but you just have to hop over some railings (not the set-up and decorated, ornate bedrooms). I'm thinking the servants quarters specifically. There's an "under construction" area that leads up a few staircases to an unfinished room. I couldn't get in there because Xmas is probably not the smartest time as there are ALWAYS people around, kids running & screaming everywhere... And they would definitely bring attention to anyone doing weird stuff. I remember it being more accessible when I was younger and we went in all sorts of secret passages but only one is open now. But there are quite a few other areas that are open now that I didn't go when I was younger (the tunnel, the turrets, etc). The large turret is closed in the winter though. I did peek behind some curtains and doors and such, but there seems to be an awful lot of need for furniture storage. It was always stacked sofas, tables, etc. If they weren't used for that, they were used for performers dressing rooms, kids activities, admin, etc.

I'm curious what the unfinished pool looks like when there isn't a "theme" room there (@ Xmas it was the "Evil Queen's Lair" cos of a non-denominational holiday fairytale princess thing). It effectively blocked off the rest of the pool area, which appeared to be merely stuffed with old Halloween props & trash anyway.

It was also hard to explore since there were huge functions going on on the main level. And Santa was there...

I've seen the unfinished pool without a "theme" -- just imagine an empty concrete hollow. No tiles, no nothing. Just concrete.

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

I started a thread about this quite awhile ago because like you, I had thought there would be a ton of interesting shit to see in there. I used to go there all the time as a kid, and it certainly seemed like things were a lot more relaxed there. Of specific, I had wanted to see the servants quarters [up a staircase from some other area] and the turrets in the stables [they have cast iron staircases leading up them, but access is denied]

I don't think they really do tours anymore. When I was there last, they just gave us these crappy handsets, and as you'd enter each room there would be a number you punch into the set. You could then listen to the long boring story about the room. I don't recall there being many staff around. I'm sure you could find some off the beaten path spots.

I remember when I was a kid in the 90's... we could still go into some of the areas now-closed due to Ministry of Labour/Fire Code concerns. There's a (very) narrow staircase going up to the turrets that you can't go up anymore.

OT: Speaking of narrow staircase.. anyone try to get up the Whitney Block next to the Ontario Legislature? Same reason why it's unused - stairs too small for fire code.

The Scottish Tower (the smaller turret was open) is incredibly small. Truthfully, I can't imagine a much smaller staircase! I'm usually pretty good with steps but that was a little tricky for my big boots.

They said when I was there that the other tower is closed only because it's winter (cos it's the one that goes outside). It's only open May-Oct or something. Nothing about it being permanently closed. Hmm. I'm curious now where you would access the bigger turret... Is it initially the same stairs (through the a ridiculous room full of wood all over the place, like rafters, but not) that lead to the first level of the Scot tower? I walked around a bit on that level and found one locked mech rm (I think) and an open room of stand-up fans. I suppose it could have been through there but there were a lot of fans. Then across the hall from that was the doorway to the second room of rafters and such that you go through to get to another staircase. Etc etc, until you get up to the spiral staircase and to the top of the enclosed turret. If i'm remembering correctly....

Is the access to the second tower from there as well, do you recall? I'm just wondering.

Meh, I might as well post these. They're not all that exciting, lol.

That's a bad shot of the stairs that are closed in the servants rooms. The mirror lets you see a little. And there's graff up there so ppl do sneak up there...

The first area to the towers from the third floor. There is an awful lot of support beams.

Which lead to...

To the left is the mech room, and then the fan room.

In that hallway, to the right is....

Reinforcements

You can see the stairs to go up further. (There's an easier way to get there than stepping over all the beams.)

I can't exactly remember where this was.
I didn't take any more pics of the small stairs or the spiral staircase (They're all over Flickr anyway).

Wow that colour photo, those stairs are like 70 degrees or is that just due to resizing?

And when you finally disappear, We'll just say you were never here.

On the contrary...very nice. I've never been to Casa Loma, and might never. Were all those pics of off-limits places or what you see on a tour?
