I don't know where you managed to get a 3D Mag for 15$. The cheapest one I can find is 30$. L-ions do last longer than normal batteries, and I'm starting to wonder where you buy your flashlights if you are having problems with being burned, or simply running them. I have 5 Li-Ion flashlights and I have yet to have any sort of problem with any of them. Of course, they all cost $30 or more.

Sometimes I wonder if my obsession with flashlights led to my interest in Urban Exploration, or conversely, if my
interest in exploration led to my flashlight obsession

Ebay. Clearance Sales. Online. Etc.

How 'bout this deal.

2D Cell LED Maglight for $11. This past summer Walmart did renovations. I was in their clearance aisle everyday after work looking for deals. That is a 40 dollar flashlight for 11 bucks.

I think Maglight cleared out their stock at Canada's crappy tire for their old, non-led units (I got two!), it look slike some sort of promo-pack because it had three lights in one huge blister pack. The Li light I had (lost) was a streamlight, 1 cr123 light that had xenon and led's. I left the xenon light on in my pocket when I slipped it in, and I wasn't impressed when it was baking my thigh 30min later. I think that a xenon bulb can only heat up like that, so if your using LED's its not an issue.

I'm actually in the market for a headlamp or flashlight that had both LED or halogen / xenon. I'd like to have the ability to use both a warm and cool light source for photography and it would be great if it could be something I could slip into my pocket.

EDIT: Geez, ebay prices are pretty high. I've seen stores trying to clear out mags cheap, but it looks like it might be a territorial issue. Have you ever looked at petzl gear on europe websites....?!?! Crazy.

Thankfully, modern high-power LED technology lets you burn yourself just as badly on LED lights, too!

Air's original question about batteries seems to have transformed into a discussion on lights in general, much like the flashlight thread we have floating around. Do we need a Flashlights, Torches, and Portable Lighting private board, perhaps? Dammit, I'm making one!

Yeah, it's terribly unreliable, and doesn't seem to improve, despite ongoing efforts.

I uninstalled the IM client I was using - better go reinstall, huh?

The private boards in general seem to be pretty inactive.

The Flashlight, Torch, and Portable Lighting private board is one I created yesterday, so it understandably has little content so far. I'm sure it will be a roaring success, however

You're right, though, with a few notable exceptions like the Politics board, the private boards are pretty slow.
