Drainage Pipe/Tunnel in Memorial Park - Appleton, WI

Has anyone ever been in the drainage system below Appleton Memorial Park? My buddies and I went pretty far in that whole system. We even went as far as constructing carts to lay on while we pushed our way down the pipe.

It starts out fairly large (~5'), but after an intersection it turns into like 4'. We got to another intersection where the piping was even smaller. Two friends and I crawled for a little while down one of the smaller pipes and found it was just leading to more, smaller pipes.

It's worth checking out in the Appleton area if you're into the whole tunnel/underground thing. Word of advice (seems so obvious now), don't light any flares in a closed space.

That's hardcore, most people ignore pipes smaller than 4ft, but I've heard of them leading to awesome stuff in some places.

I'm up for a milwaukee meet.

What's to go down? I hear there's plenty of buildings, but I don't really look for them.

Milwaukee has plenty of places, the problem is simply there are more cops then there are city blocks. would have to be a small group, and a place not exactly in the downtown area. draining possibly? Otherwise would have to find something not so close to high traffic areas, or well known cop stops.

I know there are some steam tunnels, but they are active. So who knows how safe those are.

I'm working on tearing apart the milwaukee underground as best I can...

problem is finding people who are just as interested on a consistent basis. Some days 8+ people, some days -1.

hmm.... I always thought that might have just been a large tunnel for that nearby parallel stream. will have to check it out sometime.

Also wondered a lot about those two that go under the airport.

Well.. as far as the airport drains are concerned, I would be very cautious, as they do not take venturing around there lightly. I explored both all of them as a child, it has been a long time, they are fairly interesting.

there is another, I never really go the gumption to check it out, it is here:

http://tinyurl.com/drain-2ndedgerton

its a small one and there are gates, however, they can be lifted.

There are gates on the others too, however, if we were unable to lift them, there was an outlet just south of the entrance which you could slide in.

it goes under 13th street for quite a ways. it was my first and last lesson about opening manhole covers blindly. seriously..

On another subject.

I have somewhat of an interest in steam tunnels, however, I have been told the ones in Milwaukee are infested with large cockroach populations, this, I am not interested in. Have you been to any of these?

There is one other place, very peculiar, I am uncertain what it is.

it appears to be some sort of aluminum type grating/door and it looks like it leads into something large, but I could not tell.

it is here:

http://tinyurl.com/strange-drain

let me know if it is interesting. be careful.

I would have to say anything airport related is not a good idea. Even though our new man in charge is shutting down Guatonimo, I would not like to be the first to find out where its inmates are being transferred.

Steam tunnels are fun, however, if active, make sure you bring protective gear, and have the knowledge of where the nearest exit is in case of a heat wave.

Bugs and roaches are only a problem for me if you go barefoot, but hey, we all have our phobias.
