Does the Navy leave it's boats and ships unguarded? Armchair explorers want to know!

This is nearly off-topic, but since you asked... well, the better half of mine thoroughly explored some decommissioned ships boats while she was on a ship boat ship stationed in the same port in which they were (and two still are) stored, and my father, who was briefly working in the navy shipyard said that he went through several empty ships boats until he found the person he was looking for. That, of course, doesn't mean that they were unguarded - there was a bored guard standing at the gate with an empty rifle...

Our navy's ships, all three, are of course always crewed and guarded ;)

For real, most naval ships around the world are always crewed or guarded in a way or other, including ghost fleets, and it's quite likely you'll get caught if your skill level is below, say, 55.

Unless you have the quest item in your bag set to 'Equip'.

Lucky i put those extra skill points in to my sneak skill..

the boats up here, there are only 3 of them, and there just in a small port so im not to worried about guards, the one on the pier there is no buildings or any thing near it to have cameras on it or guards. We really were not thinken to much of making entrance in to the vessel since escape would be next to impossible against any one except a 60 year old security guard. But we have plans for the next few days to attempt it, ill post any pictures we do get.

I would think getting in to a ghost fleet from the navy would be really cool!

One thing you do have to worry about is air quality. If the ventilation systems are not working some of the lower decks may not be a safe place to venture.

If you get inside: Pay really close attention to direction/location. It's easy to get disoriented once you go belowdecks. Try a penny-trail or any kind of marker to get you back topside. And please, please, post the pics immediately!

Whatever you do, don't use breadcrumbs. I learned that one the hard way.

You could always dive over the side and swim for it. You get extra ultra leet UE ninja points for daring escapes like that.

Oh you should see what we came up with, 30 feet of 7mm ice climbing rope, with a small belay device and each of us wearing a harness. We basically loop the rope around the railing *or some thing that will not move, most things on a tanker ship are bolted down pretty heavy* then basically just advance ninja role over the railing and rappel down the 20 feet or so on to the ground. and run.

Hey i've done something sorta similar to this, hope it works out for ya and that you can get out of there without any trouble. A cautionary note, try to be as QUIET as possible, you can hear damn near everything on a silent docked ship. Also, even though it is "dead," ships are always moving in the water and things will rock around and make a shit ton of creepy noises and whatnot. Post pics! assuming you're not caught and thrown in jail under those antiterrorism laws. oh and bonus points if you use your ninja skills to get on/off/inside the ship.
good luck
