Really, none of these arguments about film hold up

First off nobody was saying "shoot film as a constraint to make you better".
He was merely stating 1 point and I was saying I believe it to be true also.

I stated in my post that I believe the dynamic range as well as other things make film the ideal choice for me. This is an age old argument people have had since digital cameras came on the market.

Show me a digital camera that can replicate the color and feel of film without manipulation or multiple exposures. I was just expressing my love for film. No more no less.

Just don't drag it out into the middle of a hallway because that's like putting lipstick on your asshole. It makes no sense.

Lipstick on my asshole, that's the only reason I even explore anymore!

Actually that is exactly what I was saying . Admitedly, the approach isn't for everyone.

I'm still learning by doing. Which means trying shot composition and seeing what works. Apparently I'm a slow learner, but I'm getting there with my 500-shot camera cards.

Not really. It's no surprise that films like Kodak Gold 200 or Velvia have less dynamic range than a Canon 1D Mark II. It's also no surprise that a picture taken with a 24.6 MP digital camera will show more detail than one taken using a 35mm camera.

Which is why, if you want to try and compete with digital, you don't use Kodak Gold 200, Velvia or a 35mm camera. You use entirely different films and larger formats instead.

Regardless of all this, film has its own characteristics that can either be a help or a hindrance depending on the situation. Use the tools that work best for what you want to produce, not because someone on dpreview.com tells you to.

I think it's a good approach for someone who's at more of an intermediate level in photography, but when you're first starting out, I see nothing wrong with shooting as much as you can. Just don't put everything online where I have to see it.

Also, if you ever find yourself taking too many photos with digital, you can always just try using smaller memory cards. Try using a one gig card instead of one that's 12 or whatever it is they're up to nowadays.

Uh, no one's forcing you, you don't haveto look at anything, as far as I know. Does some made urbexer have a gun to your head, forcing you to look at his bloated flickr stream?

Yes, that's clearly what I meant by my statement.

I actually took a photo of a fucking tricycle the other day. A fucking tricycle.

actually for a backwards photography amatuer like myself the dslr has slowed me down because i spend just as much time working out all the available shooting options as i do the shots themselves.

last few trips i just decided to stop caring about getting great photos and just went for gold and shot whatever crossed my path...having a couple of gig of memory helps of course

i like the look of film , and there is a quality that is unique to the finished product. But fuck paying for the processing, waiting all day to pick it up or having to stop and reload the camera every 24 shots. just a personal choice.

perhaps in time i'll take a small film camera out with me on a trip (i have a couple ) but exploring still comes first for me most of the time, and shooting from the hip is just easier....and im far too impatient to wait to go to the trouble of getting the processing done - it used to kill me doing a night exploration, then waiting for shops to open, then hours for the film developed and the cost...dslr for the lazy, ftw.

I really like the photo as a whole. Only recomendation would be to shoot it vertical and at a lower angle. Great shot BTW
