|  | | | Some days, you just get so idiotically lucky, all the planning and preparation in the world can't stand in the shadow of sheer, brute dumb luck.
I was checking out some old buildings which might have nice roof access (one of them has a copper dome on it, an old star observatory, very nice
), but so far no luck. But I was enjoying myself, it is cold but clear weather, a low-hanging sun gives nice light in which the city looks pretty, the streets are nearly empty because of the cold and the relative early hour, not a care in the world.
I wander into the 'Oude Haven' area of Rotterdam, a touristy 'yeh olde port' kind of thing with lots of bars and stuff. And old buildings, so who knows? I run into a group of middle aged men, all dressed up and looking formal. Amongst them I recognize the new mayor of Rotterdam. At this point, it means nothing to me. So it is the mayor, who cares? Round the corner, and I see that there is a construction site, yet another high rise is being build. They are in the fase of finishing off the interior.
Interesting... if construction crews are active, doors will be open. I sneak into the lobby, take the elevator boldly straight to the top (24th) floor, and hope for the best. I am in luck, some caterers are breaking up their coffee tables and stuff in the penthouse. Very easy to wander around, take some pictures. Man, what a view! Some lucky bastard is going to live here!
In the elevator on the way back, I learn from some construction guy that the penthouse will be the new official quarters of the new mayor. So by dumb luck, I stumbled in right after some official coffee and cake party, with all the doors open.
I am a happy man today!
The pictures aren't the best quality, not the easiest light to take pictures through dirty windows

It will be his residence. And quite a stunner, when it is finished. Funny enough did I tour city hall a couple of days ago, hadn't yet shopped the pictures. So we might say that I am currently stalking the new mayor without realizing it  Oh well, that probably explains the unmarked van that sits half a block down the street for the last couple of days

Anyway, I did not know that those kind of houses were built abroad as well, I thought they were only built in Helmond and Rotterdam http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kubuswoning the Wikipedia page (in Dutch)
