| | Old Kodiak cannon and bunkers ( no pics) < on 1/5/2009 10:44 AM >
| | | I've explored a ton of amazing sites in Kodiak, public and not, all before i had a camera, i thought i'd write about a cool one most people i'm sure havent seen. ( Soon as i can go back to Kodiak, i am going back to all my old sites and taking pics... Its soo a UE'rs dream there! Any one whose been to Kodiak, has probably seen the big cannon and bunkers out at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Park which is a Former W.W.II army outpost, this 183 acre park holds many remnants from that period. Thirteen camp sites, hiking trails, picnicking facilities, historic and natural history displays stuff like that, But sense they blew up the cannon, no one has really seen what one looks like in ready service, Well one time me and my dad were four wheeling off the boyscout lake trail, and took a left through some deep woods with barely a remanence of a trail right above where you can see a super old trailer, instead of keeping to the right with the trail.. And while we where driving off trail we saw a couple bunkers and pill boxes that look completely untouched since use in ww2.... At the end of the trail at the cliff, you can kinda see some metal to youre right, if you go through the bushes it is a completely intact cannon, like at Abercrombie, rusted, but looks ready to fire! it was truly an awsome site! if anyone is going to kodiak, and wants to know about that site, or tons of others hit me up- Galax [last edit 1/5/2009 11:07 AM by galax - edited 1 times]

| | | I'd like to go back to Kodiak one of these days. There's probably some abandoned houses/cabins around as well.

| | | Awesome! I haven't heard of the intact canon before, but there's a few of those hiding in remote spots around the Alaska coast. This guy has a lot of good info, maps, and photos on his website, it's associated with the military museum out there: http://kadiak.org/
