I saw this in the latest issue of Wired magazine. Looks like it could be useful while exploring.

http://www.milwauk...8_-1_197137_192137

These can be had for ~ $170.00 to $220.00 or so.

I have not used one, but I will be checking them out.

If you have used one, please post your impressions.

Is this what is widely known as a "fibre optic camera"?
Granted, it depends entirely upon what you're exploring, but unless you're going somewhere absolutely nuts about security (ie. frequent patrols, all armed with M4 carbines), it would just be a waste of money.

Too specialized. I'd probably break it, anyways.

While it's nice to have all sorts of little gadgets, I honestly can't think of ever needing that short of an emergency colonoscopy.

I'd only take it with me if I knew exactly what I'd use it for.

Looking Around Corners, Looking into Rooms BEFORE you enter (If it was night vision capable/modifiable even better) Would be useful underground or in active tunnels.

Most of the places I go into if they even have a security guard, he's either a toothless ancient meth addict that doesn't give a shit about you and as long as you aren't wrecking up the place, couldn't care; or they are so out of shape that they couldn't run-down a donut rolling away from them. If there is CCTY or motion sensors you are boned any way you look at it.

But it seems like a very neat little device!

If you want to pay a lot less and get a lot more, look over ex-medical equipment auctions for a 'field endoscope'... You can easily mod the focal length on one of them to make it quite useful for 'through the keyhole' exploration.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

The only time I can think of using this would be to look out of manholes before popping the lid. But you could probably use one of those dentists mirrors as well
