| | | Not sure about the Huntington area, but there are several places along the river in the Charleston area and a bit east of there.

| | | I think I almost dropped out of my chair laughing at that reference, Sara... Thank you for the kind words, though. evo6011, if you'd like to get together sometime I'd love to meet you. I can think of a few places you might find interesting, and some others that would be wise to avoid, but I like to meet people before I give out too much information. Send me a PM or an email, and we'll find some time to get together and talk.

| | | Nice meet-up guys. Do you happen to know where any spillways are located in town or if the sewers and drains are one in the same or if they are seperate?

From the newspaper articles about the sewer systems, it appears that for the most part Huntington has a combined sewer/storm overflow system. I think separating those systems is one of the issues in replacing it. That said, I tried checking satellite imagery for anything that looked remotely like an outflow, but didn't see anything. I would guess that your best bet for outflows would be in two places: along the river near downtown -- west or east of the park, or along the outlet of Four-pole Creek in the west end. That would be where I'd start a concentrated search. Unless you can make contact with the sanitation engineers in some way, of course...

| | | Done. The one that I know of for sure is near the meadows elementary but is in a high traffic area and there is alot of graffiti at the entrance. I feel this could be and entry way.

| | | I'm pretty sure the tunnel rumor is true. I worked in a place that was said to have access to the tunnel system, and tried to find out for sure. I couldn't completely verify it, only that the basement seemed to go on beyond where the outer perimeter of the building should have been, and then there was a door that was locked up like Ft. Knox leading beyond that. So... I'm in the Chas area and a newbie at this, but would like to check it out. Please let me know if you find out anything. Also, isn't there a spillway at Beech Fork? It's not right in the city, but could be cool.

What was the name of the company you used to work for? Right now I am gathering information on a tunnel system on 5th street hill. It is rumored that there is an active tunnel there and another that runs from the "river tower" and is used by the Masons. It was said the the new construction on 4th avenue covered up a tunnel that led from the keith to the frederick. I cannot verify that because the street is pretty much done now and most of the workers are gone. Access to the one on 5th is found in several locations, one being right beside 5th street road and another on top of the hill on private property, this tunnel is active and is used by another secret society of sorts. Another access point is rumored to be located on the property of the old monestary near the museum. I will try and verify this in the coming weeks.

| | | I worked at Jim's Steak and Spaghetti. Good times. I have heard for years that there was a tunnel access in the Keith Albee. I have a friend who tried to get in and check it out but I don't think he ever got in. Apparently, actors for the theater used to arrive by boat and there was a tunnel from theater to river. Also, where is the old monestary? I didn't even know one existed. Cool.

I heard all of those rumors also. The thing is, most were probably covered up years ago or the access blocked by different owners over the years. The tunnel your referring to by the river (more than one) was also used to move animals from the steam boats back in the day. Ive been up and down various parts of the river bank and there are no access what so ever. At one time, part of the railroad used to be closer to the water and part of it actually was in the water to unload supplies from the boats. The monestary in located just down the road from the museum and is in private ownership now. It was sold a long time ago and the "sisters" that did live there are now located near St Marys hospital. I was told that there are two tunnels under that building but I cant verify that information.

| | | yeah, i don't imagine the tunnels were kept intact, especially since there have been so damn many sinkholes in the streets that have been filled in. Still, it would be cool to find something to check out. If you do find out anything, I would love to know. I know it's probably not a good idea to post info, but...
