(I meant to post this in the UE DB, but since I'm not one of the blessed few "full members", I'll have to post it here! Just as good!)

This is a location I initially discovered through this forum, and decided to follow up on my own during one of my many trips between Glennallen and the Valley. Very easy to find; once in Chickaloon (don't blink) take the road that leads back to the river next to the gas station. There is indeed a bucket line going across to the house on the other side of the river, but you might not see the cars at first. That's the fun part, discovering just how much is there. I don't have any history or anything, just some pictures. Enjoy!

I noted the USAF sticker...

I thoroughly enjoy the green of that car.

that green one is either a 73+ Ford Maverick or a 70+ Ford Torino. At the distance you're at and the compression that UER uses, i can't tell.
The Pontiac with the USAF on the bumper is a Catalina or a Bonneville.
the rest of them are just wasted... there was a 70- Ford Falcon, maybe Fairlane in there, a VW van, 2nd from the top looks like a GM 250cid OHV straight 6.

Ah Alaska! Rednecks are really just doing their part to recycle. Old cars become "planters", old trains become "streambank stabilization". If you live near the coast, anything that doesn't float becomes an "artificial reef", and if you're the military, who cares if that one patch of ground never freezes and the deer have two heads?

There's probably a lot more in that area, I always wanted to get up to the old Coal mines and abandoned AKRR branch in Chickaloon, but never had the chance.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

There's a place in Anchorage just like that, only it's at the bottom of the bluffs. Since you live pretty close to it, you should check out Nike Site Bay down in Goose Bay. It's pretty trashed nowadays, but you can find some sool stuff still, especially the tunnels underneath the launch bunkers.

Thanks for the tips guys. Like I said, I know nothing of the history of the area, but you're all whetting my appetite anew... can't wait for this summer. My ability to explore is somewhat hindered these days too... I'm a wife and mother of YOUNG children and overall very busy person, I just LOVE to explore! We poked around Hatchers Pass a bit this fall (just moved back to AK in August this year) and I can't wait to spend more time there... SO MUCH to see. Tried to find the car dump in Kincaid Park, but it was a really cold day for the babies and we didn't make it far. Never even heard of Goose Bay, but I intend to find it. I guess I just love this site because it's a way to justify this very odd obsession of mine... I am not alone.

I was just about to comment that I bet Samurai would know about these cars.

site summit is a must for any ak explorers

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws."
