Shake Rattle & Roll

A friend and I went scouting for locations today, and we turned up a few things. We tried to follow what appeared to be some kind of train rail, but it's been out of use for so long all that was left was wood and rocks-- there was no iron or track material at all. The trail looked promising, but turned out to be a dead end, except for some really nifty graffiti on the overpass. Driving around, we ended up at what turns out to be the Shake Rattle & Roll Go Kart amusement park, or the sad remains of it. Anybody heard about or seen this one? This is my first legitimate post and yes, I'm a n00b to both forums and cameras, so please be gentle. ;p

The only noticeable remains were the gas tank in #1 and a couple of skid marks. Though the notion of bringing one out there isn't too farfetched, in my opinion.

OOooooh, a noobie.... virginity of the forums.... This ones mine boys, back the hell off!!!

Welcome to UER Johnny M. Very nice pictures and locations. To all the other noobies out there (we were all noobs at one point) this is the way it is supposed to be done. No advertising, no clubs, just good old fashioned exploring a place and showing everyone the location. And having fun doing it!

Good stuff there Johnny M.

Awesome self-portrait! You totally did that on purpose, right?

Haha, aww, thanks, Raticus, you're giving me the warm fuzzies. And I'm all yours. ;p

And yeah, RobertB, that was just my unprecedented skill with a camera. I pulled a "D'oh!" when I noticed that one. At least I'm kinda obfuscated...

Yeah, BN, a joyride would have been awesome, but the gas tank was actually more than I expected to find, haha. And that toilet has definitely seen better days. Even in use.

Thanks a lot for the input, guys!

I raced there

in the 70s

they also had a mini-bike track complete with berms and small jumps

I think their liability insurance put an end to that lots of wipeouts

Awe hell, kinda takes the spark out of the chase when you just roll over like that, all willing and everything.

Oh, neat, 2X! It's really cool to see somebody who got to see that place in action. I didn't see any motocross stuff around there, but then that may have been gone a looong time ago, and I didn't go too in-depth. The place definitely warrants another visit and I plan on seeing some of the parts I didn't get to this time. I avoided a lot of the interior for worry of vagrants and hobos. :p

Aw man, Raticus, I was never good at roleplaying. ;p

Just remember Johnny, there are 5 things you must photograph when shooting an abandonment:

1. A doorway
2. A window
3. A stairwell
4. A toilet
5. A random chair

Get all those, and you've documented the place to our usual high UER standards!

Oh...and welcome to UER!

yeah that was a long time ago

the mini bikes were pretty cool too I think they had rudimentary front shocks/springs anyway

we would use a paper clip to defeat the governor on the mini bikes throttle and it was commonly called a "ni&&er rig" by some but it made them go a little faster

this place also did a lot of advertising on radio maybe even TV at the time it was quite the deal

Thanks, Barry!

Yeah, 2X, the place next door looked pretty bombed-out, too, but it was mostly empty, so we left it in peace. And no, I don't think you're old. Raticus, always stirring stuff up, huh? :p I do want to check that landfill out, now that you mention it, didn't see it that trip but I'll have to Google Earth it. Seems like that place was pretty impressive in its day, sad to see it like this now.

Well, I couldn't find any (complete) chairs lying around over there, and I didn't venture into the dark areas where the ladders and gremlins hid, but I'm glad to know that dumb luck got me 3/5ths of the list. I'll definitely keep it in mind for the next trip! ;p
