Has anyone ever been in or seen the unfinished subway system in Cincinatti? I have seen some pictures of it, looks interesting. From the research I did on it, it looks like it is getting more and more closed off. Just curious if someone has seen it or is interested in it. I think the Cincinatti museum does tous of it.

This is a great example of why not to post or photograph entry details... Very neat tunnel though.

Edit: I stand corrected; the details are outdated by years anyway.

I'm confused, are you insulting me? or the people who created the site that I linked to? thanks

Hmm..

There are official tours done by the museums "Heritage Programs" once a year, they're expensive and sell out very quickly, not to mention they don't let you take pictures.

It's not really do-able. The entrances are all sealed and locked, and the tunnels are used today as conduits for fiber optics and a water main.

It's really pretty boring. I got access a long time ago before they were sealed, and it's really nice all that interesting.

Yeah, the subway now houses stuff that OMG TERRORISTS are after. I'd avoid it.

Certain tunnels, like these, are accessible but lead nowhere and are just that, a tunnel. Well, a tunnel/homeless hang out. Today tours are done through the Cincinnati Historical Society, who do not permit you to bring cameras or take photographs and who bring along their own security during the tours. The reason being as they claim the typical "Homeland Security" nonsense. This is due to one of the city's main water mains that now runs through the tunnels and the above mentioned fiberoptic lines, which apparently they don't want pictures of, yet ironically you can see pictures of all of that and the entire abandoned system here: http://www.cincinn...it.net/subway.html Those photos were taken in 1999 during one of the city's routine inspections.

Has the best walk-thru and history.

The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave.

That Deer Creek subway looks interesting... Especially the "completed sections" map showing several finished areas 200' below Walnut Hill, with shafts into them. Get your rope out!

Unfortunately, many of the sections were broken into during construction of Interstate 71 in the 1960s, and the southernmost section was broken into (again) during construction of an office complex.
