| | | Some help please... < on 11/25/2008 8:19 AM >
| | | I am not a full member yet but I have met some of you at the last GTA meeting I am hoping someone here can help me out... I've been to NRI Rubber Factory which is cool place... I am trying to find another place in Toronto, more of industrial type such as the Thermal Generating Station Redux was (is that place still in existence? I saw some pics from it and it was wicked!) where I could take some cool shots of my friend... We'd probably be shooting during the week and I'd prefer that the place would not be too popular so we don't get too many distractions... Is there anything anyone can suggest? Please if possible PM as I think posting locations in the forum is not allowed... I'll be more then happy to share the pics with everyone after THANX!

I would have to recommend the brickworks, but from what I have heard there is work going on there. Try it anyways, it has a few corners that haven't been done to death.

| | | I was thinking about it but I think that place gets too many visitors and since we are thinking of possibly taking some pics with skimpy clothing a less visited place would be preferred

| | | Is your friend male or female? That would depend a great deal on whether or not I'd go exploring that particular day ;)

Not even just a little? I'll be happy if I never see a busted goth/underage model in an abandonment again. I don't have anything against other types of work -- with people, just not the same tired crap over and over. [last edit 11/26/2008 5:54 PM by Air - edited 1 times]

| | | It is an Female, 18+ and not a goth nor will she be nude... Sorry it's not what some of you were expecting I got tired of shooting at the studio... Figured it will be more fun to just find a real location to shoot at... The wardrobe will be selected once I narrow down the location but will consist of at least 2-3 different outfits - not all skimpy :p As to shooting guys... Unless it's a paying gig it's not my cup of tea :p

Actually I've been shooting people outside recently. I'm not a fan of studio styles and I do like working with natural light much better...but yeah it seems there are no guys-in-abandonments on flickr. Its an untapped market.

| | | I will be using strobes as I have portable batter - just experimenting a bit... While the place you showed (barber mills) is great the open roof worries me due to snow/water and temperature... Are there any places that maybe would look as in this pic which is from Thermal Generating station? http://invisibleth...0041212-gro_17.jpg

| | | hmmm...the generating station in question is sorta one-of-a-kind around here unfortunately... im presuming you dont want to travel to the states for this shoot, so I wont suggest any locations south of the border. In lieu of another G.S., your best bet(s) in toronto might be the malt plant, or a fairly obvious former food-processing facility in the junction that I wont name here. Unfortunately both of these are fairly difficult to get into, especially during the daytime like you said you were hoping for. Maybe Stelwire in burlington? (if theres anything left of it by now that is...and to be honest I think its all gone..) Other than that...Im not sure. If you find another place that looks like what your aiming for, please let me know p.s. were you the guy at the meet with the D2x?? -terapr0

| | | The Don Valley Brick Works is stunning; some people here will shun it because it's 'easy' et cetera, but it is one of Toronto's most beautiful and photogenic places; keep in mind, as of last weekend, they have started some work on it (proper abatement etc.) - this from a reliable source. Give it a swing, though - it is stunningly beautiful, and won't be around, in its current state anyhow, much longer- as long as you can find your way to the premises, entry is self-explanatory...

| | | I agree with Jono. For your purposes Brickworks would be great - industrial look and easy access. When I was there last weekend I was told they were removing asbestos and that I should wait a week or so before coming back but if you'll notice from the picture below, the workers directly below the stream of falling dust weren't wearing any breathing apparatus.
