| | | New DB Entry: Branch Davidian Compound < on 11/16/2008 8:15 AM >
| | | I remembered the other day that back in August of 2006, before I ever heard of "urban exploration", I decided I wanted to see what was left on the site of the Branch Davidian Compound property outside of Waco. I divined the exact location via the interwebs and stopped by on my way back from Austin one afternoon. Took a few pix with a cheap point-n-shoot. Anyway, I figured it might be of interest to some on UER, and to my surprise I couldn't find a DB entry for it, so I went ahead and created one. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=27843 See the DB entry for more...

| | | Ill never forget the day they raided that place. I was at my Grandfather's house just before he died we were watching wheel of fortune I think. Then there was a special report that broke in an we sat there to watch it. Anybody else remember what they were doing that day.

| | | I was in my Grandparents bedroom watching their brand new state of the art big screen projection tv. My mom had a party at our lakehouse and didnt want me down there so I was super pissed. Back then I raced go-karts and I remember seeing that row of them and thinking pieces of crap.

| | | I remember it, but it wasn't an event that had the sort of impact of the OKC bombing. That one I distinctly remember -- the first I heard about it was while pulling in to work, that there was some sort of explosion in downtown OKC, maybe a natural gas line. But the Branch Davidian standoff went on and on, and it seemed almost inevitable that it was going to end poorly... so it didn't end up being a "remembering where I was" moment. The only ones of those I have are OKC, 9/11 (of course), and when Reagan was shot. Oh, and I remember the crawl across the bottom of the screen that said that Elvis died. The monument at the BD site to the OKC victims is strange... was it put there by the BD's before the siege?

No, Waco the siege happened in '93, and the OKC bombing was in '95, both on April 19th. The OKC bombing was perpetrated on that same day of the year as a show of payback for the handling of the Branch Davidian situation.

D'oh! Looks like it's time to turn in my "old enough to know stuff" card and pick up my "old enough to forget stuff" replacement.

| | | I remember watching this on my tiny black and white tv, in my tiny basement apartment, with my crazy fellow who decided then and there that we had to take over the government. It was weird to see a pothead who never really showed any emotion beyond blah to be full of anger and hate throughout this whole thing. He must have really identified with the group. Anyhow, I am really glad you posted this. I am shocked it was not in the DB because it is such a huge part of history.

So, how's his plan for government takeover coming along? I *have* seen a lot more Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts stores since then. Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

| | | Me, Scotteyo and Veritus found a road once that we were sure lead to the remains of this place. We drove for a long time, but never found anything cool. Later research showed the road went nowhere. I was under the impression that NOTHING was left of this place... only a field with some cow poop.
Very cool indeed! Thanks for sharing this.
