Look I got a protip for you. There is a pretty well known book you may have heard of "how to win friends and influence people". It's worth at least a cursory glance so that next time you're introducing yourself to a forum and asking them for help, your initial post doesn't read like this:
Im hoping... Im hoping... Im looking for.... Im looking...And im looking for... If you have any ideas... It would be great if anyone... People are what I need... Please let me know if you have any ideas...
You seem to have put zero thought into how we may perceive your situation, which is not unique or especially interesting to the board (hence the disinterested discussion in your thread). Your request is dime-a-dozen to members older than a few months and you've failed to garner our serious interest or differentiate your cry for help from the other typical cries for help of this nature. Given the generic nature of your request, I think you'd do well to suggest why someone should help you, perhaps list why you think someone should get involved, what benefits it might be to them, etc etc. So you can't afford to pay someone for their time, offer up something else.
The quicker you learn that nobody here owes you a goddamn thing and you need to help us understand why we should help you out, the easier and smoother things will progress. Kicking your thread of with I I I I I I I I I I is a surefire way to rub us all the wrong way.

Sarcastic I dont mind, But when all Im doing is looking for someone to meet up with in west michigan to check out a few places they havent yet, or they know of and they call me a cop right off the back because i dont have a website. Thats F'n lame. I've got two short cannibal movies that neither vimeo.com or youtube will allow me to post because of nudity. Or else I'd have something for you. And go ahead and call me cheap but I dont know of a server cheap enough to host a full 15 min movie. That I could afford a month to month. I dont have a real job. I shoot weddings for a living.

Perhaps were you to offer or suggest an inventive for us to give you something for nothing we'd be more welcoming. As you've likely deduced from the responses thus far the novelty of answering the same old tedious questions from journalists/students wore thin years ago.
Instead of hovering about the edges of the subculture peering in I suggest you throw yourself into the deep end. Urban exploration is not a fucking spectator activity. Buy a plane ticket to New York/Boston/Paris/London/Sydney/Melbourne/etc and spend a night or three trying to get into the subway/metro. Hell hit the BART.
Here's some things which might happen to you:
- you'll have run ins with security/police
- learn how security operates
- train yourself to spot CCTV cameras
- meet homeless people
- learn to pick suspicious people as you're crouching behind the bushes
- discover the difficulties of climbing barbed wire
- appreciate the subtleties of timing
- experience nervousness, fear, tension, adrenaline, terror, elation
- learn to trust your judgment
- hone your judgment
- learn to keep very quiet as workers walk right past you
- experience hiding in an alcove as trains rush through the tunnels
- find a layed up train
- find an abandoned platform
- run into graffiti writers in the tunnels
- pop out a dirty rubbish filled ventilation grille into a busy street
- get arrested
- be questioned under the patriot act
- have your house pulled apart
- held for XXdays without a given reason
All these and more could be yours. Best of all, instead of having to ask us the same old tired questions you could write from your own personal experiences and known what drives us, and why we do it.
Return with evidence of yourself in the BART/subway/metro and I'll look at (and if they're good) answer some questions. Seriously, it's time we start putting you and your ilk through the meat grinder. Prove why we should help you. |

kinda funny how that guy's never mentioned anything in the california message board about going out exploring... but still logs in to this day! Maybe he'll write a story about how we're a tight-knit group of underground criminals who require trial-by-fire type ceremonies to allow others into our fraternity. </rant>

if you want to find something new... the forums is NOT the place to ask. You gotta go hunt for it. If you're that bent on finding something, look at the posts in the history of the midwest section, and try to use the search feature.
I could go on and on why you're getting the shit in this forum, but a good part of it I think is that you're not interested in exploring, but exploiting using a location for your own agenda. You're looking for a location to shoot a film... to, oh, reveal to the world through the eyes of a video camera. Explorers really don't do that. Sure, we photograph, but we're not trying to pass it around to everyone and get the location placed on the map for the general population. That's how it gets shut down. UER is a partially-closed community, and it seems to be that way because of negative effects that the hobby carries. You have to show that you want to commit to us, before we even think about committing to you. That's part of the reason that there's a full members list... to filter out people who don't belong.
As far as the comments, anyone to this site since the elder members established it have had to go through the high learning-curve of cynical remarks; smartass statements provided for our dumbass n00b questions. It took me a while to catch on and to not blow my lid at every little remark. I suggest that if you're really bent on filming in an abandoned building, go out and scout yourself. Hell, even if you don't find anything for your needs, maybe coming back with something positive towards our community here might get you a little farther with us being willing to help than you blabbering your face away at all of us.
