Sad news about Chippewa Lake, Lima TB Hospital

TraumaHound and I went out to Chippewa Lake today. First thing we noticed is that there are many, many more no trespassing signs at the gate, including one rather large one that says that trespassers will be prosecuted. The fence has been repaired in a few places, but cut in a few more places.

Looks like the property has finally sold, and will be torn down to make way for a "wellness clinic" in the spring. She got in with no problems today along with a few other groups, so it seems like business as usual...

TH and I know the son of the owner of the Lima TB hospital. The owner is now pressing charges against people he catches trespassing, and arrests have been made recently. Unfortunately, it sounds like guided tours like the one we had in the spring will be out of the question.

Not really surprising on either account - both are high profile and well known as "easy" spots. Just kind of sad, since I (and presumably others) busted their UE cherries at these locations.

Yep, this sucks. Glad I made it there last year. The locals have got to be pissed. For anyone that dosent know much about the area it's a small lakeside dirt road community and this place their making is gonna look so out of place. I'm actaully working on a small essay about chippewa park for college comp now about how it would be nice if it could be made into a city park but still preserve some of the older features.

Damn shame. Chippewa was my favorite abandonment. Seems all my favorite haunts are going this way. Ridgeview Center, Chippewa...I even heard the HoJo in Cleveland is getting remodeled finally. Never did get down to Lima...

I am surprised anything is being renovated in Cleveland. Seems like the entire city is being vacated both in terms of people and corporations.

Yeah I know. I got out while the gettin' was good. Seems it's in a downward spiral. That whole area sucks.

Of course the thing about the Hojo is, they've been saying for years they were gonna renovate it. All these builders with pipe dreams have been in and out of there for ages now. So it could be just hearsay.

Too bad about Chippewa. My girlfriend is from Medina and I was intending to drag her out there at some point as a gentle introduction to UE. Sounds like it's not such a great idea anymore... and even if it's doable, it's definitely kind of messed up due to the movie that was filmed there recently.

edit: I keep hearing that they're getting closer and closer to doing something with Molly Stark, too - tearing it down, I assume. Better git that shit while the gitin's good.

I'm not surprised about Chippewa, I was there last winter and there was spray paint along all the utilities, no trouble with cops or nieghbors though.

As for Cleveland, I'm curious if either of you actually live there? Ohio City? Tremont? Detroit Shoreway? Theatre District? Even Midtown is undergoing some good development (there is this neat little random gallery/cafe on suepeior next to the futon factory). Sure the East Side is still a little rough but such is the plight of being poor and black in this country. Blame the white republican fat cats in the burbs for that.

I don't live there but I did visit it for three days. Now I did visit Ohio City, Tremont and the Flats but overall the entire area just gave me a tired industrial feel (which I loved). My perception was also based on the fact that the area, not just Cleveland continues to lose residents. http://blog.clevel...big_cities_in.html

I lived on the outskirts of Cleveland most of my life. I moved up to the Ann Arbor area just this past summer.

The section of Cleveland where the HoJo is, is most definitely NOT Tremont, Ohio City or the Theater District. More like the very edge of East Cleveland by MLK.

weee posting in an old thread!

A friend and I went through HoJo recently... I'll just say in past month for plausible deniability. We scoped it out on a sunday but it was getting dark and we didn't have any really bright flashlights with us. still got in through slightly destructive means. Came back on that Wednesday and the door was already repaired. So whoever has it now is at least keeping tabs on it. My guess is they check it every monday for anyone that goes through there over the weekend. Had no problems once we were in except my friend getting easily spooked. It's closed up pretty tight but had no issues once in. Hope to get around to posting pictures from it.
