| | Coming to NYC < on 10/25/2008 9:18 PM >
| | | Hi all, I'm going to be in town the weekend of Nov. 8th, and I was wondering if there's anything in/near Manhattan to check out. I've already done the asylum on Roosevelt Island and all in the back of Jazz at Lincoln center. Anything else that would be good to check out? Thanks, Charles

| | | Forgotten-NY.com has a lot of interesting information on many sections of the city. It is fun to peruse and find out little cool things to see. The strangest places in the city are probably those found stories below ground. I would not suggest any tunnel adventures for someone that is new to the area. They can be extremely dangerous. I also don't know anyone that still goes down there! If you venture out to Staten Island, there is an abandoned shipyard and hospital. Queens has Creedmoor's "Living Museum" as well as some abandoned sections. Brooklyn has tons of old warehouses and an abandoned hospital in Flatbush. It is also has the famous Peter Luger Steakhouse. I cannot really help out with the Bronx. I hope some of this is helpful! If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

| | | Lantern, I just checked out that website, pretty good stuff- Thanks for posting. Usually when I'm in NYC I'm covering a show, and have limited time to do anything, but I'm thinking of taking a few days to designate just for exploring.

| | | Pickings around manhattan are very slim these days unless you go underground. freedom tunnel is indeed a good easy one... or you can go for random rooftops & things like that. For the most part all the big cool abandonments that were around for years are gone.

| | | I just love going through that Forgotten-NY site. There are so many different places that I have seen change or disappear in NYC since I was a kid, and this site shows some of that. The World's Fair towers are still up. The Queens Museum is not too far from there and it houses a great panorama of the entire city which is worth checking out.
