Must go places?

Hey all,

Seeing as I am new to this scene I am wondering what are some of the Must visit places?

I have been to Nobel, Camp Bison, St Johns Jail, Don Valley Brick Works and Marmora Mine and I plan to visit Hearn this month or next as soon as I find a way in.

Now what other places should I check out? I am more into industrial places or big building rather then houses or drains.

If anybody can make some suggestions, it would be great. Around the GTA would be good to but I am not scared to drive a little if its an amazing place. There was a school in St Thomas I wanted to check out but it burnt down last year or something but that place would have been awesome.

Thanks all

Go To Hamilton. See Lister Block like everyone else has (yes I know yawn people..) and check out Firestone. If you meet up with a local they can tell you more

Pripyat is a nice place to visit, how much driving would you deem excessive?

Unfortunatly half the places on my "must see" list have either been demo'd, sealed up or pimped out. However:

-Caledon Radar Station (demo'd)
-Brick Works (pimped out)
-Malt Plant (sealed up)
-Hearn (pimped out)
-Ontario Power Company (being demo'd)
-Enwave tunnels (generally a bad idea)
-Whitby Psych (demo'd)

But that would be my list.

Well I drove to Sudbury which was a 4 hour drive so anything within like 8 hours should be fine. I will check out more on Pripyat.

Yeah if it's demo'ed or being demo'ed I don't really have any interest in going. I want to go to Malt but I am sure there is a way in. In my search, everything good is no longer standing so thats why I thought I would ask here.

Thanks

edit: Seems like Pripyat is a good 10 hour flight away lol

If you're willing to drive, then you will find a lot more large locations to visit in Buffalo, Niagara Falls NY and Detroit.

For Ontario, I'd suggest (in no particular order):

~ Firestone
~ Prince Edward Heights
~ Kennedy House
~ Lister Block
~ Muskoka Sanitarium
~ Hearn
~ Port McNicoll Silos
~ Greenwich Village
~ Lyric Theatre (getting in and out and the ladders are the fun part)

Thanks for that list. I will def check out those places over the next few weeks if I can find them.

Kennedy House, is that a jail? If so I have already been there but its called St Johns in my part of the wood considering I live 20 minutes away from there, I never heard it be called anything else.

But thanks again for the list. There are some new places on there I have not heard of but I am sure I will find out something.

Thanks again

I would recommend CFS Edgar, but try asking the security guard if you could look around rather than go in undetected and uninvited. Then take a little trip and check out Project Turnaround. It's not extensive but it's interesting.

Do some research on Buffalo, if you prefer more industrial locations.

I agree with Sudbury, Edgar is probably your best bet if you can make it up to Barrie anytime soon before the snow falls. I haven't been to as many urbex sites as alot of ppl on here, but it is hands down the best site I've been to in my life.

Thanks all. I have wanted to check out Edgar but I have read that most people who go there get busted but I think I will try it. I only live like an hour and a bit from there.

Yup that Kennedy place is the jail I went to known at St Johns around my area. It was a cool place to be.

If you're caught trespassing on any location, not having previously asked for permission, then that is a likelihood. If it's property used by the OPP, then it's an increased likelihood.

If however, you walk right up to security with your camera in tow, and ask for permission, sometimes the answer is 'yes'.

Also, an interesting tidbit about Edgar. The company that has the contract for on-site security (Securitas) has a company-wide "no arrest" policy. This means if they catch you on property, they CANNOT arrest you. They can only ask you to stick around until the OPP get there.

This doesn't mean they won't threaten it, and it doesn't mean they won't try and bring you back to their office - but remember, these actions are voluntary and are yours alone to make. Just say "I'm not staying. Call the Police if you want to, but I know your company policy is to not arrest so you can threaten me all you want, but I'm leaving" - and leave.

Yes, *legally* they can arrest you (any owner/occupier is allowed to under section 494 and section 41), however the company will not back them, and will likely give them hell for it.

Well today I tried to find the Muskoka Sanitarium but I could not find it. I could see the big object beside it but I had no idea on how to get there and after 2 hours of driving around trying to find it, the rain got worse and it got dark so I came back home boo.

I will go back once I can find it

The exact coordinates put it into the lake and the last photos posted are from 2006. While the first one is not a big deal, a lot can change in two years time as far as demolition, security upgrades, etc.
