Cette fermeture, devenue définitive quelques mois plus tard, a durement touché la communauté de 1300 personnes, puisque 200 personnes travaillaient chez Tembec. En septembre 2008, Tembec a annoncé son intention de démolir plusieurs des immeubles situés sur le site.
