UE Artwork?

(First I want to start off with saying that I did do several searches trying to see if there has already been a thread posted about this but I did not have any luck.)
==============================================

Urban Exploration + Artist = Urban Exploration Artwork?

I know that the vast majority of people on this website are interested in photography and do their own (no-brainer). I also know there are a very large number of members interested in photography as an artistic means, and some are even studying Photography in school at the Fine Arts level. A lot of people are also into graphic design, photo-manipulation and photoshop-related picture alteration work. We already know all this and have seen it everywhere.

What I would like to know is if there is anyone out there who makes other artwork based on Urban Exploration, primarily in the traditional fashion? By this I mean UE paintings, UE drawings, UE mixed media pieces, and hell maybe even UE-inspired SCULPTURE? Anything of this nature. Does anyone KNOW of artists who do this? Is anyone INTERESTED IN making this type of artwork? What do you think of the idea?

I'm very interested in reading responses. I am an art major (art therapy minor) studying at the undergraduate level. I'm thinking of creating such artwork myself, possibly drawings, based on UE.

Fellow artists and art students, give a shout.

I'm an animation major right now, and I'd like to incorporate a UE theme into one of my projects in a year or two, when my animation skills are up to what I would feel could appropriately express what I'd like.

For all my imagination, I'm not much of an artist. But it sounds like a really cool idea! And I can tell you I've certainly seen some paintings and drawings of UE interests. Even at least one tattoo. I don't recall where any of it is, but I hope you get some good responses!

You mean *that* tattoo?

So, what exactly is Art Therapy? I could look it up, I suppose, but then this thread would be much less interesting.

Yeah, "that" one.

As for art therapy....

Short answer: almost like a social worker who instead of verbally working with people, works with them through artwork.

-----------

Long answer: "Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.

Art therapy integrates the fields of human development, visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms), and the creative process with models of counseling and psychotherapy. Art therapy is used with children, adolescents, adults, older adults, groups, and families to assess and treat the following: anxiety, depression, and other mental and emotional problems and disorders; substance abuse and other addictions; family and relationship issues; abuse and domestic violence; social and emotional difficulties related to disability and illness; trauma and loss; physical, cognitive, and neurological problems; and psychosocial difficulties related to medical illness. Art therapy programs are found in a number of settings including hospitals, clinics, public and community agencies, wellness centers, educational institutions, businesses, and private practices.

Art therapists are masters level professionals who hold a degree in art therapy or a related field."

If I remember correctly, The Hitman's Daughter painted some urbex locations. However, her account has been closed for over 2.5 years now.

i'm a Fine Arts graduate, and do paintings, drawings, sculptures, and printmaking as well as photography, but the closest work i've done to urban exploration is architectural pen & ink drawings for a few commissions.

photography is my primary medium for UE...but now that you bring up the topic, i think i'm gonna get back to my canvases and do some UE-inspired paintings.

good topic.

What a timely post; I'm planning on making some wood engravings (a form of printmaking) of Kirkbride buildings, and then using the blocks as a sort of freestanding sculpture.

I'll post some pictures when they are done.

Art therapy sounds really interesting; I wish my school had that!

A friend of mine lives out near Joshua Tree National Park, here in Southern CA. He wanders the desert collecting junk: springs, joints, metal scraps, parts of cars/buildings, pipes, even aircraft parts in some places. He then combines them, fuses them, into art pieces. He's gotten pretty well known in his area in fact and makes a pretty good living off this.

I like to use abandoned environments as umm... environments, for the surreal sort of drawings I enjoy doing. Great places for filming too.

I don't know if THIS counts, but he's a remarkable talent. Mixed-media. Sculpture, painting, collage, bricolage. Found objects. Re-discovered things. Ask me about the first time I encountered his work.

Kuroneko told me in Japan it's not too rare to see people with an easel and paints sitting outside an abandonment.

This might interest a few people:

http://www.youtube...atch?v=LeHtLnCptgA

A video about Cindy Tower, an artist based in New York and St. Louis who makes large paintings of industrial ruins from direct observation on location. Like, she sets up her easel and canvas in ruined factories and goes to work. Seriously, the video (unlike 99% of what is on YouTube) is really worth watching.

Some of her terrific work can be seen here: http://www.cindytower.com/index.php

thanks for the link...she does some pretty nice work.

i like how she has an almost impressionistic style to her paintings of abandonments, but yet still convey the grittiness of the locations. very cool.
