| | | I'm sure a lot of people here know this show. If you don't know it, it's basically about a guy exploring all the cool underground places of different cities while incorporating history into it. I think on a couple of episodes they had some urban explorers as guides. It's probably the only decent show on the history channel. They show some pretty awesome places. Here's the wikipedia link with a list of general locations they've shown(not exact locations): http://en.wikipedi..._of_the_Underworld Has anyone seen the show and gone to some of the locations?

| | | I used to DVR this show, but now i never even really care to watch it. It started out as being very interesting, but some episodes they used crap as subject matter. I mean some of the places are probably very historically significant, however today there's nothing left bug some crumbled rocks and they talk about an underworld that used to be there. That's no fun. Still a good show I guess. Half the time it's good, half the time it sucks. I'd rather watch that guy walk trough a university steam tunnel rather than some 1000 year old historical nothingness.

Yeah, the military bunkers make up the better part of the show. The fort with a tunnel going underwater was especially cool.

the one under new york harbor? Hopefully, some REAL explorers got on their hands & knees, and crawled until they could no longer fit...
the show's pretty neat. It seems that they give a taste of what exploring is like, as it is slated toward a television audience, not people who actually go out and do something...

Yes, the tunnel goes under the east river from Fort Totten.

| | | I saw Cities of the Underworld Istanbul and Cappadocia around the time I was deciding where to go for my next vacation. We went to both and it was pretty awesome. The 7-story underground cities were very cool and the cisterns were still beautiful. I put some pictures of my travels in this thread: http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=60390

| | | I thought the talk of the steam locomotive sealed up in the tunnel was very interesting (New York City). But I was disappointed when they just made thir way up to the wall that it was supposedly sealed up behind, talked about it, then walked away! Dig man!!

| | | They had the G-Cans in Japan also. Very cool show! On a similar note, does anyone remember the series (5 shows) Urban Explorers on the discovery channel? They explored Gates, The Buffalo RR Terminal and a bunch of other locations that are familiar. I was wondering if any of that crew is on this site? I thought it was a pretty cool show personally. Here's one of the guys who hosted the shows page. http://media.under...-explorers-tv.html

On another show (secrets of the past or something) they were at the same location, and they said that if they took the wall out, it could damage another tunnel nearby (I think it was a subway). They also said that the city puts on tours of it, but how often/how much for that I'm not sure.
For the 5 show series Urban Explorers, I've been trying to find it for a long time. I might have seen the Paris one, but not sure. I was quite young, and they talked as if going into the catacombs was basically a death sentence, as there's absolutely no one down there. ever. But I'm from milwaukee, where they filmed one, so I really want to check it out (although I've heard it's pretty ham'ed up and dramatic). They don't sell it, and I can't find it for download anywhere. Anyone else have a copy, and would they be kind enough to spread the wealth?

This is the problem I have with the show and why I stopped watching it. It seems just as it gets interesting, the guy will get bored and wander to the next location. Half the places they go to, he just yammers about it without ever going in, or going only until he wimps out. I always finish the show frustrated.

Yah some of those episodes were really cool like the Paris Catacombs. I might have to start watching again. I've seen about 5 episodes. Though each one I've seen got progressively worse. There has to be some better ones that I've missed.

Bob Diamond is the guy that found the tunnel and dug out the entrance a while back. They city doesn't give tours, he does, with the city's permission. I've been on the tour before, it's certainly entertaining. I just wouldn't put too much faith into there actually being a locomotive down there, Bob seems like he's a few cards short of a full deck if ya get me. He also says that the missing pages from John Wilkes Booth's diary are in there too. The reason they haven't dug through it is because there's a crapload of telco and power conduits running right through the end of the tunnel. They'd actually have to dig into the tunnel sideways from the basement of one of the buildings along it on Atlantic Ave. It'll happen eventually though.

| | | Did you see the Secret Soviet bases...? The "dummy apartment complex" that was a decoy to throw people off "Object 221". 1 mile tunnel into a mountain side. 3 buildings 5,4 and 5 stories high - 250,00 sq.ft, 600 feet underground! What was even better was the dummy mine nearby created as a front. I'm not to keen on the Billy Mayes inspired host, and the really poor lighting techniques tho. You can't see anything inside the buildings because they are using crappy $4 flashlights, but some of the sites they visited were interesting.

We passed around a torrent of that back when it was coming out. Want me to dig it up? I know I have it somewhere...
