"All the world's a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed" - Sean O'Casey

| | | ...is an annoying thing. Especially that it's not really efficient. Just my 2 cents. But hey - peut-être que c'est juste moi. It makes me feel like I speak some sort of crazy dialect that no ones understand, plus it makes me feel like a second class member - like you automatically need a translator to understand me. Anyway. Thumbs down for me. [last edit 10/13/2008 10:54 PM by maZe - edited 1 times]

It's always great to see that the time and effort I put into adding features to this site are appreciated by members like you. I'll keep this in mind next time you send me a request or a complaint. Quebecers may hate to admit this, but French is a language spoken by a very small percentage of the members of this site. The translate button gives the rest of the world (and our English-speaking moderators) a quick glimpse at what's going on, and allows a wider audience to appreciate the post. If you don't like the feature, nobody is forcing you to use it. Cheers, -av [last edit 10/13/2008 11:30 PM by Avatar-X - edited 1 times]

| | | I think it's great, because it doesn't bother bilingual folks (like me) and gives an opportunity to more people to communicate with us. Thank you Avatar for your site, it's well built and very professional. It doesn't compare to other ue sites. Keep up the good work!

| | | Well, it's not as though the Québecois speak anything resembling traditional French. Naturally, the translator barely works - but I still think it's an excellent idea.

| | | Av, This is your site, you can do whatever you'd like with them. Last time I complaint was... When I thought you were right about doing whatever you want to do with this site during the Mod intergalactic war. Oh now wait, it's when I thought that 5 idiots, minors, throwing bricks from roofs of locations were worth being banned. No one is forcing me to use it yet I did find it annoying to see under each message, but like that way it is right now, I think it's great (right next to modify / quote). Av, you're doing a good job - you know I do. Yet I still can say I don't like something, can't I? I didn't say "WTF is that shitty new function", I said I didn't like it, that's all. And when we people from Qc post stuff outside of Qc, we do so in English. Fact is we even post in English a lot of time in Quebec. But fact is the majority language of Quebecers is French by a very, very, vast majority. But then again, it's you're site Av and you can do whatever you want with it. Yet, I now feel we're having a blast from the past from 4 years ago when someone tried to make it illegal to write in French in the Qc forum... Anyway. Bottom line - it's your site. Yet, I hope I'm able to give my opinion in polite words and appropriate language.

| | | The "Translate to French" feature was added for English speakers, not for French speakers. It is not even intended for you. What gets my goat is not that you don't like it, but that you managed to start a thread complaining about it before I could even announce it. -av

Actually Lexi, our French is much more "traditional" than the France one. The French language pattern changed a lot more in France than it did in Quebec. Just read some of Jacques Cartier's recollections of his first trips to New France. If you read it out loud, you'll see it is much more closer to the typical Quebecois language. As for the translator feature, well...I have to agree with you : it barely works -- just like any other internet translator. But if it can help an anglophone getting a sense of what has been said, even if they only get a word or two, it might be useful. [last edit 10/14/2008 12:26 AM by desertchick - edited 1 times]

I was actually just kidding around ;) You are correct though, even just a few words here and there helps exponentially. It's how I get by with most languages I have little experience with.
