I like this idea as well. Only problem is, my luck I would get a SUPER nice cop that would want a full description of "Fluffy" or "Spike" and he would spend 3 hours helping me look for my non existant dog ;) I find honestly just being respectful, having a camera around my neck, not running if I am spotted and just explaining that I enjoy photographing places like this. Is the best way. At least from my area. But it does differ from area to area, so it's hard to say.

I was working out that alibi in my head, although I prefer the much more ambiguous, I saw a cat (or could be dog) and I followed it in, so you don't get stuck in that snag. Today after getting past a barb wire fence, we saw an orange cat, and I later told my friend, "If we get caught, we were just following a cat. Picture the cat we saw earlier." Airtight alibi, even if the cops get you and separate you. Basically the best lie is not far off the truth.

| | | I can't believe you even had to ask. Like everyone here, you have to do what you think is right. In WI trespassing is a joke, out west, it is not. Here if the signs aren't posted every so many feet, and it is close, and I believe the owners name on sign and readable from so many feet, it won't hold in court. You can be on someone's property and have to leave if asked, and then it doesn't state how much time you have. If you have been warned, then the next time you come back you can be sited within 6 months. After that it starts all over again and you need to get caught. It is also NOT illegal to open an unlocked door. WTF? And if the guy stealing your TV trips over the cord, it is possible to be held responsible. I guess because pieces of shit thieves are people too. I'm not sure if you'd be better off shooting them in 'self defence' or not like in Texas. I think they would go ape shit if you shot some guy raping your daughter, because they have feelings too. But I do know if you tie him up, pour booze through a funnel til he's shitfaced drunk, and throw him in the river, you'd skate. There have been like 13 of those here in 10 years. In my town the only murderer to get caught turned himself in. If you really want to avoid a heated debate around here, just don't explore. Or, just don't tell anyone about it.

| | | People up here don't really seem to post signs on their land, so it can be hard to tell what land is private and which isn't. Case in point, when I explored dredge #10 there were no signs/fences/gates to be found at the entrance I used and the only two signs I saw were placed in such poor locations that you'd never see them unless you looked hard enough. Even then, as long as nobody's around and you have easy cover, go for it.

| | | I doubt the "Sign wasn't there" would get you out of anything. But to determine whether a site is watched regularly: Take them down. Hide Them Somewhere ON SITE. Somewhere if they bothered to look around they might easily find them. Then Leave. Do Not; I repeat Do Not; go any farther than you have to, than to remove the signs. Wait A Week. Check to see if the signs are back up. If they are: predawn it. If they are not; waltz right in. If you are caught taking down a sign don't tell the cop anything. When in front of a judge; claim you thought it would look cool on your dorm room wall. He'll probably let you off easier...

| | | Remove the sign from wherever it's displayed. Attach it to your forehead, and pretend to be a signpost. Keep your arms and legs together, and very slowly hop towards whatever it is you're interested in. Should you be approached, stand very still, or they'll know you're not a signpost.

| | | Well, after reading this I did research into the California Penal Code's definition of 'Trespassing' and found this section in regards to it. I think I've already found a loophole to indemnify my team and I from prosecution. http://www.leginfo...AISaction=retrieve

| | | Posted by sandslider I imagine it is beneficial if these signs disappeared before venturing inside a particular site. I recall reading how property owners are required to post these types of signs on every corner of the property in order to successfully prosecute (at least here in AZ). Does anyone have any stories or advice on this topic? Thanks in advance!

Okay. One - you're likely going to be seen taking them down at some point, either by guards, cops, or passersby.... Two - you may get recorded taking them down. Candid camera, anyone? Why not just get some pics by going in and ignoring them - at least when you get caught, you've been exploring and hopefully had some fun times - instead of getting caught defacing property. Edit - this is from a West Coast standpoint. The only buildings I've ever seen with tons of signs posted are ones that have cameras and guards. If it's a place that is very, very inactive then yes, taking down signs could be a good thing I guess. Just the same as ducttaping cameras....and waiting like someone else said.
