| | Found a Drain Opener. < on 10/2/2008 8:43 PM >
| | | So I just found this drain opener near my house...at least that's what I assume it is. I probably won't use it because I've found some outfalls that I might explore which makes this obsolete. So I guess I'm just curious how many people actually use these to get into drains?

| | | Actually it looks like a meat hook For pop'n drains you want something to stick in the holes at the top for a bit of leverage

| | | Actually I think I just figured out what it is. There are some openings for electric/cable stuff near where I found it, so I would guess that it's just a tool to open the little latches on them, since there are small holes in them. I have no use for it, so I'm putting it back so I don't get angry cable guys mad at me.

| | | It's multi-use. I've also seen them used to pull milk crates around grocery stores. Stack 4-5 crates, and then pull from the bottom, allowing the crates to slide easily across the floor. It's a cheap piece of metal, I can't see cable guys (or grocery clerks) getting super pissed and hunting you down for taking it.

| | | I used to work for Mass Highway. We definitely used those to lift manhole covers. I'd keep it if I were you. A "Cat's Paw" works too, but it's harder to get a purchase because the tool is smaller than ideal. But anyway, I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir.

| | | A rolling wedge bar is by far my favorite tool for opening manhole covers. The wedge is good in some cities that have the slots on the edge, and the bar end, is good in other places, that have various sized holes about 4-6" off the edge, like Colorado Springs has on their gutter boxes.

The pike end of a halligan may work too, although it may be too fat.

that's what I use. If I ever feel the need to hide it or get rid of it, I can, and not feel horrible if it's forgotten.

LOL at the duplicate copies of UER in the pic. However that popper is nothing but pure awesomeness.

| | | You're all right. I guess I was just being kind of paranoid, so I went back and got it. I'll try it out and post again after I try it, if not, I can find some other use for it.

| | | I'd be wary of carrying that thing around the streets, there are far more discreet (and effective) ways to pop covers. I'd still use it in a pinch...

No worries, the place I'm going to use it is in a wooded area of a park with practically no one around. And I'm just curious to see how good it works, I don't think I'll ever carry it with me. Thanks for the concern though.
