| | Mount Tom Paper Company < on 9/29/2008 6:12 PM >
| | | Words and Pictures by the Stooges Moss Man, Jackson, Arntzville and Captain Jack The Stooges made a stop in what once been a booming central Mass industrial area. Today maybe 5% old factories are actually manufacturing anything, the rest; cheap warehouses, conversions to living area or what we were looking for….abandoned neglected ruins. Arntz had plotted out our drive through the area and when we spotted the very run down Mt. Tom Paper Co we knew we had a hit. 1.

WTF, the lights are on in here 7.
8 We carefully put the ancient alarm system to sleep.
9. Aparently some of the area is used by a nearby plastics company for storage
10
There was even a little office with a radio on inside to make it seem like somebody was there. That unnerved us until we noticed the office was locked from the outside with a padlock. We really wanted to get into the tower and after that we figured we’d split just in case somebody actually did come around. 11.

| | | Wow, very nice old building. Lots of history there. So what, did you guys slowly put the hat over the alarm sensor?!

| | | Cool place. I second the question about the sensor...Was the alarm even active? It seems pointless to have a radio decoy deep within the place if it is alarmed, unless I misunderstood. Interesting though, good job.

| | | You should have seen the mills that are currently being demolished.... monstrous ovens, even an old steam engine that powered the mill during the cold months Careful as this place has many surprise elements, not all are security measures, they ARE still in use. Even got the pic you got back in '04. Great to see the color is still there

| | | What a cool building. Old brickwork like that is so badass. Shot 12 is pretty wild. [last edit 9/30/2008 3:42 AM by kreeningsons - edited 1 times]

I think you need to show me around what's left sometime, sir.

| | | Thank you for looking at this photo set. That alarm concerned my fellow explorers so I made up the little drama of putting it to sleep. Despite the aparent glow of the status lights it wasn't active. I believe one could be carefully put to sleep this way, but I'd sure be ready to leave quickly if I heard it click.

| | | This looks like a really cool spot, great job on the photos and the narrative! I think I know this area, and I've always wanted to explore some of these old buildings. It's so hard to know which ones are truly abandoned, as your post so perfectly demonstrates!
