with all the sites out there I am having a problem getting into them.

I have started a list and will be adding to it later however here is a good one.

www.books-maps.com

you can search all over the world

click the country then the state province then the city.

Lastly click the image you see looks like woods. It will take you to the real sat image however I think they are old.

www.terraserver-usa.com
www.terraserver.com
www.terraserver.microsoft.com
mapper.acme.com
www.mapmart.com (I really want to know any info about this one I can)

My new favorite is GlobeXplorer. It's color and in nearly every urban area zooms in much closer than TerraServer. The pictures also tend to be about five years more current. Only downside in my opinion are the watermarks, which you can get rid by subscribing, if you've got $35 laying around this month.

As a side note, I'm not sure how effective it is on sites outside of the continental U.S. If anybody tries it on Canada or anywhere else, post up how it worked for you.

I tried the GlobeXplorer site for some areas in Canada, and it didnt let me zoom in too much, however, I had no problem with viewing American cities.

In my opinion, the Interactive Maps that some cities have on their web sites are much more usefull. All of the ones I seen are free, they let you switch between atlas and aerial photos (easier to find stuff in atlas), and if your lucky, they will even tell you where, and the size of storm drains!

Hook me up with a site that allows for storm drain sizes!

I haven't ever seen any of these. Care to post up a few examples to look over? Thanks.

Here is a link to my thread that I started on here, its dedicated to any interesting finds that have been spotted with the Interactive Map Viewer.

Link:http://www.uer.ca/forum_showthread.asp?fid=1&threadid=6640
(Forums > Ontario > Hamilton Interactive Map Links)

The thread has the basic instructions on how to use the program and the web site, and where to find the program. The thread also has a few map links pointing to some interesting finds in the Interactive map program.

Unfortunatly, this map program is for the city of Hamilton only, however, a lot of cities do have interactive maps on their web page, but I havent came across too many that are as good as Hamilton's interactive map.

To use and see the map links I have provided in that thread, you have to follow the instructions that appears in the very first post! To view the storm drains on the map program, you have to follow the instructions on reply#14!

For the above post, let me know what you think. Also, if you come across any other cities that have a good interactive map program thats as good as Hamiltons, let me know.

Just a reminder, you have to follow the instructions from reply#14 in the thread I have linked to in the above post to be able to view storm drains. The program does allow you to generate links to "map views", but unfortunatly it doesnt keep the legend choices you have selected whenever you make a link. That is why you have to follow the steps in reply#14 to be able to view the storm and sewage drains.
