Here are some photos take by my roommate and I. These were taken in Burlington, Vermont. We used Canon XT, but I'm going to be upgrading to a Canon XSI in the next few weeks.

That train yard looks pretty cool! I always wanted to explore a train yard, but there are none around here.

Got anymore pictures of it?

There aren't any SEPTA or AMTRAK rail yards? Here are a few more. I am planning on going down again once I get my new camera.

Awesome. Thanks dude.

Not that I know of. There used to be a Septa yard under the Ben Franklin Bridge with a bunch of old Trolleys and Buses, but thats (to my knowledge) since been cleared out...

I like the gloomy sky you only seem to get in autumn but could have gone for more shadow detail. Lots of ways to do it, from neutral density gel over 1/2 the lens to burning & dodging in photoshop, to compositing two separately exposed pictures shot on a tripod together.

Also with the water shots I'd have included just a smidgen of the water as the sky was more interesting.

A rule of composition to shoot by would be to take your subject and stick it somewhat to significantly off center. That sunset through the belltower shot I'd crop it between the light post and the hulk of an uninteresting building. Leave the other building in, there is at least a little light reflecting off its facade to make it worth keeping. Then the sun would be off the middle of the photo.

Looks like you had a great gloomy day to go exploring! I really feel it in the dark mill/parking lot/trainyard shot.

if these were taken yesterday, what a beautiful day and that sky was just completely absurd!
Be careful around that railyard... they hate people in there.
Check out the old Moran plant while you are on the waterfront. I had many a lunch there when I was working out of vergennes.

I am going to be getting some gels in the future. But I think that including the water was crucial to showing the true feeling of that day. The water was black and added to the surreal feeling.

Samurai,
So you're from the area? Port Kent, Plattsburgh? The sky was incredible on Monday.

I am from Port Henry/Moriah NY, but used to work for the Job Corps in Vergennes VT and at the Bond Auto in the Price Chopper Plaza on Route 7 by where I-189 starts.

you should check out the Crown Point Forts/ Bridge area for some nice sunsets.

LOL... My dad is an Adirondack Forty-Sixer... Even did all Forty-Six in the winter as well!
When you're on Algonquin, check out Wright Peak as well. The remains of a Boeing B-47 bomber are still up there.

Wow, I'm definitely going to have to check that out. i'd love to climb all the peaks in the Adirondacks but with the price of gas these days it just isn't practical, especially when my truck gets 10mpg GRR.

you live in Vermont!
one of my friends just found a 91 Honda Civic 1.5L on Craigslist for $450 right there in Burlington.

Hell, I am looking at an ad for a 96 Chevy Cavalier coupe, 5 speed, 87,000 miles for $700.

If only I didn't just spend $800 on a camera and lens.

I'm sure there are plenty of train yards in the Philly area. Check this out :
